To be honest her performances over most of last year were notably poorer than she is capable of. and though she did have quite a run of bad Asian results her best performance of the season was reaching Korea 25K QFs, beating the Japanese No 2 seed ( WR'd 264 ) very comfortably in the L16.
Tara seems happy to play in Asia, so I don't see an Asian problem as much as frankly a Tara problem at times.
She has got real potential and ability so I really do hope that she will sort out some of the issues holding her back as soon as possible.
But yes, some 25Ks and even 10Ks just to give her wins and points might be good at this stage.
Agreed, you're quite right. Its puzzling indeed. Perhaps she would have been better sticking to juniors to get more match play and confidence rather than plunging straight into seniors.
Tough start on paper, but Broady did beat Cohen in straights en route to her 25k title in Puebla: 6-3 6-3. Will be a good indication of whether Naomi's form has carried over into 2010.

"Naomi won through to the 2nd round at the $50K in Quanzhou,China in real tussle with USA's Julia Cohen ranked WTA208. The eventual score was 3-6,6-3,6-4. In 2nd round Naomi will meet the winner of Chin-Wei Chan (TPE) and Aleksandra Krunic (SRB)."
Interesting that this was not as easy as Mexico but still comforting that she came back to win it. It's a long way to go for a tournament but well worth if you can pick up big points. Hopefully now a cert to be top 250 by Wimbledon time and thus a wild card into the main draw.
