A much better day for the boys than the girls here, with interest maintained in all 8 qualifying sections, though there are a lot of strong opponents left to overcome for qualification.

Expect George to really step it up this week as he really excels at this venue.

Six in final qualifying is good, and there are 3 LL spots which therefore ensures at least one will make the main draw.

Andrew Bettles d. Alejo Apud (ARG) 6-4 6-1
(3) Jaden Grinter (NZL) d. Liam Broady 6-4 3-6 6-4

(7) Stefan Micov (MKD) d. Alexander Wilton 6-4 7-6(1)
(12) Tom Farquharson d. Nathan Pasha (USA) 6-2 3-6 7-5
(15) Juan Sebastian Gomez (COL) d. Ashley Hewitt 7-5 6-0

FQR

(1) James Marsalek v Rodney Carey (BAH)
Andrew Bettles v Shaun Bernstein (USA)
(3) Jaden Grinter (NZL) v Lewis Burton
Kyohhei Kamono (JPN) v George Morgan
(6) Nikolai Haessig (CAN) v (13) Richard Gabb
(7) Stefan Micov (MKD) v (12) Tom Farquharson

Main Draw

R1 (L64)

Given the tournament standard those are pretty decent first round draws

Quite a good day I would say only one loser in FQR which was Andy Bettles no scores as yet and both players in main draw got wins so 7 out of 8 wins.
Very well played.

That's really great stuff from the guys, nicking the majority of the qualifying spots  smile  I hope some can go far here..

8 in the first round with 2 already into the L32 is certainly hitting the MD with numbers.

FQR

(1) James Marsalek beat Rodney Carey (BAH) 6-4 6-4
Shaun Bernstein (USA) beat Andrew Bettles 6-2 7-5
(3) Jaden Grinter (NZL) beat Lewis Burton 7-6(5) 2-6 7-5
George Morgan beat Kyohhei Kamono (JPN) 6-1 6-2
(13) Richard Gabb beat (6) Nikolai Haessig (CAN) 6-1 6-3
(12) Tom Farquharson beat (7) Stefan Micov (MKD) 4-6 6-4 6-1

Main Draw

R1 (L64)

Jack Carpenter v (LL) Kyohhei Kamano (JPN)
Tom Allen beat Barrett Franks (NZL) 6-3 6-3
Oliver Golding beat (WC) Shane Vinsant (USA) 6-3 6-4
(Q) Richard Gabb v (WC) Slim Hamza (TUN)
(Q) Tom Farquharson v (Q) Raleigh Smith (USA)
(LL) Lewis Burton v (6) Guilherme Clezar (BRA)
(Q) George Morgan v (WC) Dane Webb (USA)
(Q) James Marsalek v Zachary White (CAN)

R2 (L32)
Tom Allen v (15) Sekou Bangoura (USA)
Oliver Golding v (9) Tiago Fernandes (BRA)

Golding has a decent chance against an opponent who is more comfortable on clay and is on course for a third round meeting with Mitchell Frank, who knocked him out in the U16's last year, while Allen faces a tough match against the losing semi-finalist in Eddie Herr.

Burton surely has a chance against a clay court specialist, while the rest have all avoided seeds.

Marsalek has a tough second round match against either the 2nd seed or Jack Sock, who took a set of Donald Young last week in the USTA wild card play-offs for the Australian Open as well as winning a futures last month.

To get eight guys in the first round of an event like this is pretty good, yep?

Very good - only the USA (obviously) have more - and pretty lucky with the first round draws. One thing I would add to Wolf's helpful analysis is that Olly's second round opponent could prove strong even on hard, as he reached the quarter finals of the US Open beating two top tenners, including one who favours hard.

Clezar on the other hand has only won a couple of matches this year on hard courts, and was well beaten by Olly in the Canadian Open - so there's a good opportunity for Lewis. Lewis also has a WC with Andrew in the doubles - don't know how they wangled that!

Seems an excellent 1st round draw for the lads.  Should be alot getting through me thinks.  Though i can see it going a bit wrong in round 2.

Good luck to them all though pray.gif.  It's exciting having 8 in the MD.

There's a glitch with the tournament website and there is only doubles results available.
Ollie and George are the only British pairing through to the second round.

Glitch fixed
Richard lost 7-6 6-1
Tom won 6-4 6-3
Lewis lost 6-3 6-0
Jack won 7-6 1-6 6-4
George won 6-0 6-0 ( should play all his tournaments here)
James won 3-6 7-5 7-5
Thats the good news the second round matchups look nasty.
