Well done, Dan! He will face Antonio Veic (CRO), the player Boggo beat in the first round of the Bratislava Challenger last week before going on to take out Phau, in the second round. Evo's doing it the other way round. Let's just hope it will be with the same outcome!
A couple more seeds have now crashed out: Kevin Kim (4), beaten 2 & 2 by the Jamaican, Dustin Brown, whose good form continues, & Harel Levy (5), beaten 3 & 3 by that pesky Pole, Michal Przysiezny!
Comon dan take this, this guy veic lost his last five before yesterday, win and that's 20 points in the bag for the week, it's already a good week getting 9 for the win
No doubt, if not this coming Monday ( he'd need to reach the semis here ) then the following Monday when Ward will be dropping 24 points, well unless Jamie B does some really spectacular stuff
However, I wish it was more as a result of Dan surging up the rankings than Ward and Goodall basically having significantly fallen back.
Anyway that's a really good win for Dan in Round 1. Hopefully he's on good form this week and can make a good move up the rankings, and doesn't stick in one of these occasional awful looking defeats that to me make him still a bit of an enigma.

Looks like our Dan is turning into a bit of a player to watch - kinda like Boggo - in that he can spring a surprise against anybody. We don't really have that with the other top guys who tend to beat the players they're meant to but lose to anyone ranked higher. I'm sure someone will come up with a dozen examples of Goodall and Bloomers beating top 10 players but I'll stick with my comfortable opinions whether they're accurate or not!
hey there :) I happen to have a reporter in Helsinki for my website
I hope it's ok with you if I post the fragment about Daniel in here... hope you all folks are doing great... and no harsh feelings about the DC boo-hoo. I also have shirtless pictures of Aucks and Marray from Szczecin on my Facebook but I'm not sure how I can post them here.
Daniel Evans vs Bjorn Phau
When arrived to the court for a moment I thought Fernando Gonzalez was playing in the place of the Brit. Evans was sporting exactly the same look as Gonzalez usually does and he also kept shouting Vamos! out loud each time he won a big point. Even some of his shots reminded of Gonzo, but with less power of course. The match turned out to be the best quality tennis of the day. In the first set Evans was able to control most of the rallies with a good mixture of attacking tennis and Phau seemed happy to just try to get everything back. That didnt work out for the German and in the second set he became much more aggressive winning it in convincing style. The third set turned out to be a copy of the first set, where Evans used a lot of variety to take charge of the match. He showed cool nerves under pressure and earned the win by playing more positive tennis. Meanwhile on the other courts Koubek and Kamke had already won their matches very quickly, so next I wanted to see how Dustin Brown was doing on Court 4.

Not having particularly researched it either I kind of think you are right, Dan certainly has had some really good unexpected wins.
But he does also have unexpected defeats, sometimes really bad, and this is one reason why he is not really rising up the rankings to the extent many had hoped. In that regard, he is much more inconsistent than Boggo. Some folk seem to think there are some players he just doesn't match up well against, but whatever he does need to sort this out somehow.
It would be great to see Dan find some real consistency in his game, and the ability to deal with different players, and rise up these rankings.
