4 & 4 to Hutch & Horia. In a sense we couldn't lose, but I'm still a bit disappointed that J & J had to lose! Friend Junaid (who had a good day today) & old friend, Sandro Motti, next for H & H in the QF. Hope they can repeat today's success...

I play on sand-based outdoor carpet all the time now and can safely say it is far and away my favourite surface! (Well, I like indoor hard too but can't afford it...) The bounce is nice and low and extremely consistent, unlike grass, and the sand topping (I presume) means the ball doesn't actually come through as fast as you might imagine. It's quite hard to bury smashes because the bounce is so low, but it suits my game down to the ground and I'm reluctant to play on hard again now. Really hope it doesn't disappear!
jb that sounds like astroturf based ct. esp with the sand. i think they are fairly common in the uk as an alternative to grass and the costs to maintain are much lower.
i don't think i've ever played tennis on them but i have played football/hockey though, i remember it grazes the skin easily! i dont think many pro tournaments are played on them though, at challenger lvl and above at least, maybe 1 in ireland?
i was more referring to the indoor carpet that a fair number of indoor challengers are still held on. are there many atps on indoor carpet?
edit: just to be clear theres no sand on indoor carpet cts and if they become worn then there is so little resistance aginst the ball so it flys through super quick.

ugh i hate the sandy astro courts, the bounce is so low and the courts far too slow. My club just got rid of the astro courts for two synthetic clay courts and a type of hard court which is a little squidgy when you press it
