Kind of expected really, must be hard to get up for a challenger after their recent success at ATP level.
Kontinen & Nieminen are hardly a bad pairing are they? Nieminen has been near the top of the game in singles and doubles for a number of years now (although he had a bad year this year).
Reality check I suggest. I still don't see them as a top doubles pairing capable of getting to the latter stages of grand slams just yet. Probably just better than Jamie and Ross at their peak so still plenty of improvement still to be made for them to aspire to win a grand slam.
Unable to get on the site last night, (oh good, I hear some say). I was following the match via the livescore and was very disappointed with the outcome. I'd expected the Fins to be no pushovers, but did expect the Brits to win through in the end. Better stats all-round, except where it mattered: the conversion of break points. Still, can't win every time and perhaps a no bad thing as a reality check for the two of them.
In the doubles Eaton & Charroin (FRA) beat Bracciali & Galvani (ITA) 6-1, 6-4 while in a result which I think was played yesterday Cox & Slabba lost to Nielsen & Sirianni 6-3, 6-2.
Unfortunately Marray & Bastl have had to give a walkover to Goodall & Duclos because of personal reasons for Bastl.
QF: Pauffley/Ward v Kontinen/Nieminen (FIN) QF: Goodall/Duclos (CAN) beat Marray/Bastl (SUI) w/o QF: Eaton/Charroin (FRA) v Nielsen/Sirianni (DEN/AUS) QF: Smethurst/Willis v Mayer/Summerer (GER)
Really pleased to see Dan & Marcus enjoy a bit more success in Jersey. Would be over the moon, to coin a phrase, if they could take the title ( ), but I stand by my prediction after Kontinen & Nieminen dumped out Flemski ( ): the title's theirs to lose...
