I did think Boggo would beat Haase but maybe the cold he had did have some effect. I think it's pretty bad that the top ranked GB competitor in the tournament doesn't get a Wednesday start when he asks for it. Boggo, being, Boggo no doubt won't really make a fuss. You wonder if some folk maybe aren't too bothered if he loses
Evo looking a bit lonely there in the 2nd round, it would be really good if at least one of Fleming and Smethurst can join him. You kinda hope that one or two will rise to the occasion as Cox seemed to do, so just one into round 2 would be rather disappointing.
Not that bad a day really, especially for the youngsters.
Efficient win for Evo, and great performances from Cox, Rice and Marsalek.
Would have expected Boggo to beat or at least push Haase considering it is his first tournament back, but who knows what level the Dutchman is playing at?
Bit disapointing for Josh as well, but he could still be suffering with whatever he came down with last week and may not have practiced much.
spoke briefy with alex, he said whilst he wasnt 100% Haase played superb today anyway.
It wasnt actually the lta that denied him a wednesday start but the ATP event orgainser (in fact the same orgainser who denied alex a wednesday start in orleans - which he requested - after winning kolding). so we cant blame that one on them, although surely some lta pressure could have been brought to play maybe. i cant really undersatnd the reasoning though, what with 4 matches scheduled for Wednesday anyway.

Pretty disasterous opening day for the Brits with it looking like we may only manage to get one player into the second round, although their was some great efforts.
Shame for Cox to get to a final set tiebreak against Mayer and not come out on top but that is a great effort against a top 50 player (or he will be again soon) and if he had a better draw he would surely have won, although he does seem to be able to play better against better opponents.
Boggo's loss is a bit disappointing but if he wasn't 100% then that would not help him, and playing against Haase is a very rough draw for an unranked qualifier, as Haase is comfortably a top 100 player when fit.
Decent efforts from Rice and Marsalek as well, which a shame that Josh lost as well and it looks like he is not back to his best yet.
At least Evans saved the day with a victory although with him likely to face Niemenen in round two, I don't see him getting much further.
Hopefully Fleming and Smethurst can get a win today to save some face from this event.
