RE: Week 45 - Challenger ($50K) - Knoxville, USA

Klaasen is ranked no. 327 and was ranked 3. in qualifying

Delgado is ranked no. 246 and won a challenger last month.

I fancy Baker's chances tho against Klaasen

Baker got Klassen, Bloomfield got Ramon Delgado

Where did that come from...the ATP draw sheet says Delgado got Sisling ?

This event/USTA make LTA look extremly good wink

I imagine Sijsling pulled out as he was in the final in Asia at the weekend

But why would that affect the draw...surely the draw cannot be changed after it was made...so Sijsling is a no show...so a LL would go in his spot...no ?

The OOP confirms the Bloomers/Delgado, Baker/Klaasen draw

Think they must have drawn the 4 qualifiers & the lucky loser equally.

McClune is the LL, and is in one of the original Qual spots.

Well done to both the B's for qualifying, these are winnable matches too.

What has happened here is that Sijsling appears to have pulled out before the qualifiers were assigned.

There are then effectively 5 gaps in the draw and they appear to have randomly assigned the 4 FQR winners and the LL ( McClune ) to the original 4 qualifier spots and what was Sijsling's place.

I wouldn't really say they've changed the draw, they've just added Sijsling's spot to those to be filled by folk coming from the qualifying draw.

I am not sure if this is standard practice where the a LL spot becomes open before the qualifiers are placed or even if there are hard and fast rules in this situation. Anyone know ?   Whatever, doesn't actually seem unreasonable to me just as long as it isn't against procedure.

Clearly if Sijsling had withdrawn after the 4 FQR winners were assigned then the LL takes Sijsling's spot.

Edit ;  Oops I'd skipped post where Akhenaten had already basically said that's what had happened.  Well, I just expanded  smile   And as I said as long as procedurally OK, seems absolutely fine way to do it to me, much as folk may wish to find rivals to the LTA for alleged incompetence  biggrin
