Week 44 - ATP 500 Series - Valencia, Spain

Morgan Phillips has snuck into qualifying here at this ATP 500 event and faces the 7th seed Ivan Navarro WR 135.

Don't see much chance of a victory against Navarro (a serve/volleyer) indoors but should be a good experience for the ever ambitious Morgan.

The match is 4th on court tomorrow with play starting at 10am GMT.

Just had nothing on the return game so tied up on service games by the look.

I hope he actually learned something.

As wolf pointed out on a different thread Ross and Jordan Kerr are back together in the doubles here. No sign of Andy and James A! H&K have drawn the 3rd seeds, Cermak and Mertinak, who failed to get past the QFs in Tokyo. H&K beating their conquerors on the way to the final. Should be in with a chance...

And who should turn up in the same quarter as Ross & Jordan but Ross's ex-partner, Stephen Huss, playing with Jeff Coetzee!  Booty's also in the mix, with Rajeev Ram.

Off topic re the tournament but concerns Ross so thought I'd mention it here - from Jamie M's blog:

'I will play with Jonny Marray the next three weeks, followed by Ross Hutchins in Helsinki and that will be my long year done. I want to do as well as I can to give myself a good base to start next year at.'

Guess this is probably a one-off but could be a possible challenge to Flemski for Davis Cup if they play well together.

If Ross and Jamie M could ever form a partnership that worked even just fairly well, as Andys mate and brother, I'd be surprised if anyone else could get a look in.  Cynical, butthe way I think it would work.

confused.gif Contrary to popular belief, John Lloyd is not completely bereft of a brain.
