That's a disappointing result for Dan. I'd have thought it would have been a closer battle than 6-0, 6-2. I wonder if he wasn't feeling well or something.
Hopefully he'll get a wildcard into Cardiff next week.

Very odd result - Bloomers, Inglot and Milton all pushed Mertens a lot closer than this.
The Belgian is now 9-2 against Brits, with only David Sherwood in 2005 and Colin Fleming earlier this year having managed to beat him. I keep wondering how many points Colin would have racked up by now if he was playing Futures ...

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
I was at the match today. Lots of long rallies which suited the Belgian. In the end Dan made more errors. He never managed to dent the Merten serve and was always in trouble on his own. Shame as he was playing really well this week.
Bit of a rubbish end to the week for Evo and hopefully there was something up with him to explain why he lost so easily, as he shouldn't be losing that easily to Mertens unless he had a real shocker of a performance.
Hopefully he can rebound next week though and pick up some more ranking points there.
Well he didn't look injured or ill. He was keeping very calm until nearer the end when he had a few racket thumps. Perhaps he should have tried to psyche himself up more. In the end Mertens read his serve very well and all too often took the initiative in the rallies on Dan's serve. He strikes the ball well and has great timing. Against Inglot he was facing a huge serve which he did not like at all. Josh Milton had a lot of trouble against him, but managed to claw games back to make the score respectable. In the end Mertens played very well today and Dan, sadly, could do little about it. It was all over all too quickly!
