Not a bad first day for the Brits with 7 of them getting through to the second round, and hopefully a few of them will make the last eight.
Evans must be looking to win the event and it's a good start for him to win so convincingly, while Inglot, Rice and Bloomers looked pretty impressive by the scorelines.
Good to see Cox get a win as well, but being pushed to a final set TB by Marsalek probably shows he is still out of form, but hopefully he can use the fact he has a good record against Niland to find a way to get past him and find some wins again.
Good to see Slabba back and winning matches again and a decent end to the year would be good for him to at least give him something to work with next season. Not expecting too much out of this week, but another win today would be great to see.
BTW, eight rounds of matches here at Scotstoun today on the OOP and we are only just starting the fifth round now. Most matches on court now are from the fourth round although Laine V Rae from the third round have just started a deciding set. It's gonna be a late one here in Glasgow!
Cox at one set all against Niland. Down a break at 1-3. Rice at one set all against Ignatik. On serve at 2-1.
Last three singles matches on court as I type. Still 12 doubles matches to be played though and they can't start them just now as they are not playing doubles on courts next to singles matches so a lot of players waiting about.
Quite a lot to be aiming for 8 matches on some courts, although I have seen it elsewhere. Actually there were more somewhere recently I recall and it was close to a midnight experience ( brought your sleeping bag, Stuart ? ) .
There have also been more 3 setters than would have anticipated.
Clearly, not being able to continue doubles on courts next to ongoing singles matches doesn't help.
