Bit of a strange way to win a title but Boggo will take it I guess and great to see him back in the winners circuit after a difficult season.
Did well to come through that tiebreak and obviously Dodig did something that he shouldn't have after losing it, but Boggo seems to have improved in these tight situations recently.
Good to see him back in the top 200 as well and with nothing to defend for a while, he's got a decent shot of pushing on towards the 150 mark by the end of the year.
Well Done Boggo, good to see him moving back up. I hope he can fulfill his potential one day. He coudl easily be a top 100 player but just needs to get more consistant.
Bogdanovic was victorious in the end scandal "Is this the prize for second place?" Came the question from Ivan Dodig. Since the answer was affirmative, did the Croatian finalist resolutely the vase and smashed it into pieces against a wall on the way out of center court in Bramdrupdam halls. It was the dramatic conclusion to the final of the ATP Challenger Købstæderne between Alex Bogdanovic and Ivan Dodig.
The explanation of Croats violent exit must exist in that he at that time had been disqualified in part, reversed between the second and third sets.
Prior to that, Dodig won the first set 6-3, but just lost the second 6-7 (7) in tiebreaken, after which he begged to be allowed to go to the toilet. On the way out got a linesman, however Dodigs "verbal love" feeling.
"Since there was a serious verbal harassment of an official who was heard by the other two line judges, according to the rules of the court brief climb," says Sune Alenka, who is tournament manager for the line judges and past international judge. The judge called the Stig then tournament supervisor, seconded by ATP, on the pitch.
"He then examined the circumstances and based on several lines of independent judges explanations, he was forced to disqualify Dodig, as the rules prescribe," says Sune Alenka.
Thus became a somewhat surprised Alex Bogdanovic back on track and could be celebrating as the winner.
"I am very sorry that it had to end this way, and I have never tried such a thing before," said the 25-year-old Briton, who could leave Kolding with a tank full of confidence, 6150 euros in prize money and 75 points to world ranking account.
Its share of the premiums can Ivan Dodig turn to say goodbye. In addition to the vase, which he voluntarily left in shards on the floor, it is customary that the player will be fined after performances like this, even as he loses the 45 points, a finals place else throws by himself.
That it was precisely Dodig, who broke the movie, do not come as that big a surprise. The whole week has tempers boiled in the 24-year-old over orders which he believed has gone against him. In the first round match against Martin Pedersen did he even get into altercation with a spectator, and only in a single game - in the second round against fellow Antonio Veic - the supervisor had not called on the pitch.
"It is possible that he has been unhappy with the line judges all week, but that it actually had to evolve to this is completely unprecedented, and it is neither commendable for him or for the tournament, it must end in this way," says tournament director Niels Persson, who else can look back at a tournament with lots of really great tennis and many entertaining matches. Ivan Dodig arranged as to give the word entertainment a closing last dispute.
How very, very bizarre. I must say, I'm surprised by the utterly disgusting unprofessionalism of Dodig regarding the vase. Dreadful behaviour. But sounds like it's been typical of him this whole week and I'm guessing he reached boiling point. Coulda gone away with the points and the money but silly man breaks a vase.
On a much better note: well done to Boggo but WHY DOES HE NOT DO THAT MORE OFTEN!!!! I said it before and as good as this win is, it's frustrating to know he can play this way! More please!
Fantastic result for Bnoggo this week. i had just logged off when i got the call that he'd won. unbelievable circumstances though, Dodig really must have lost the plot. you'd think he have calmed down a bit but to then smash the trophy! so he'll lose his 45 points (which would have put him in the mid 170's too!) also for Boggo financially this was good, esp with the poor exchange rate so far over the 2 weeks he'll have earned in excess of 7000 euros,
was funny to see the interview, i think Alex hates those kind of things :)
changes the complexion on the year for Alex now, he can effectively be more relaxed in his final matches, his aim was to get inside the top 200 and he's done it, of course the next target is 150 but that's 100 points away so will be tougher.
Of course we will have to wait and see what happens from here, Alex has won many events before but has never found the consistency to build on them and really rise up. as they say we've had many false dawns with Alex, lets hope the sunny finally rises.
from here i'm ot sure what his final events will be. Depending on how he does this week he will probably try ATPQ next week, if he goes deep here he may skip it though, deciding it better to rest a bit. i think the fact that he was feeling fresh this week was a big boost. he inst, and i don't think he will ever be, as fit as some on the other guys, i don't think he has the stamina, so making sure he doesn't over play is important. there is no way he'd be able to do what Baker has just done.
He's down to play Ekental, Jersey almost certianly to, but his higher ranking also means he may have a chance of scrapping into the big challengers at the end of the year now too.
