There is only one round of qualifying here, so they are immediately playing for a place in the main draw.

A great chance for Hubbard to get onto the rankings. Does anyone have any more info / heard of him before?

According to his LTA profile he has a rating of 4.2 - If he does succeed in gaining an int. ranking then he'll be the lowest rated player I've ever seen do so.  Anyone else ever seen lower?

On an international level this is his first ever senior tournament but not his first ITF event.  As a junior he played in 2 events,  one in GB on grass which he lost to Giunior Ghedina (who later achieved a senior ranking of 920) 1-6 4-6 and the other in Hong Kong (his birth country according to his ITF profile) where he lost 0 & 0 to Jed-Denum Gould (who although reached 77 in ITF juniors but didn't get higher than 1037 in the seniors)

So a very bare and inconspicuous record that would suggest he would be a very very lucky boy to get a ranking.

Gehrke, whom David beat today, was once ranked 709 in doubles after reaching the Final of a Future in Mexico in 2006, but that was the only time he ever won more than one match in a tournament in singles or doubles. David's win today extends Gehrke's losing streak to 11 matches, one of which was a loss to Arzhang Derakhshani, a legendary name to all true GB tennis fans, since he was the player Rob Dee recorded his first win against!

Serkedakis has a better record, with a singles CH of 1267 in 2007, and even took a game off Marcos Baghdatis in a 1 & 0 loss in Greece F1 in 2003. The good news, though, is that he has been on an epic 7-match Brit-BASHED streak since the start of his career, losing to Alex Halsey (3 sets), Bam Bam (1 & 2), Thornley (4 & 5), Lee Childs (1 & 4), Eaton (2 & 2), Thornley again (2 & 2), and Cake/Dr No (6 & 0), though the closeness of some of those sets suggests that he might have too much for David.

Another factoid about Serkedakis - his last three matches have been double bagels - a loss to WR 1795 in Greece F1, a win against an unranked Greek in Greece F2 QR1 and a loss to WR 1051 in the FQR there. Certainly, I doubt a Brit has ever had a better draw for a chance to gain their first ranking point other than against a GB WC in a home Future!

Certainly a bit less to do than at the USA Laguna Niquel future.

3 guys ( the non seeded qualifiers ) had to negotiate 4 qualifying rounds in a field containing 21 ranked players with 5 in the top 1000, to reach the main draw.

Two of them lost in the first main draw round, their 5th match, thus achieving no ranking points, the other won one main draw round so got a point, hey.

I have a particularly sympathy with poor unranked Daniel Chu of Canada who after his epic 4 qualifying rounds , lost in 3 sets to Michael McClune the no 2 seed and the man who Bloomers has been exchanging tie break sets with for the last 2 weeks.

Ah, Mr Hubbard, will you ever get such a chance of a ranking point again ?

And, err, well Sean did indicate the Swiss guy had played quite well !
