It just gets worse Heather lost according to Cav's latest tweet. I had a feeling this tournament was going to be a disaster and I'm afraid it's turned out that way.
Hmm, yes I was thinking "disaster" was a bit strong.
This tournament has 12 top 200 players, only one of which is a Brit.
That player, Mel, went out to a fellow young British prospect, Heather, partly perhaps caused by suffering injury.
Only 2 Brits, Mel and Naomi, are among the top 16 ranked players. 4 Brits reached the last 16. OK, partly through playing each other
Another young British player, Lisa Whybourn, whatever today's result has shown further signs of good progression and has I would suggest exceeded expectations.
Maybe some hopes were buoyed a bit further by Heather and Laura's presence, but I don't think either of them has anything to be ashamed of. Laura put up a creditable performance against Naomi. Heather after her win against Mel, has gone out in 3 sets to the a player you yourself obviously rate very highly..
The overall results, while maybe a little disappointing and while we always wish for more, are not that unexpected. Nor are they a disaster.
Not many weeks are like Shrewsbury

I am not saying the individual performances were that poor but that the draw together with the fact their opponents have played well showing that it was quite a strong field makes it feel like a disaster or a big disappointment.
Good to see Heathers honest reaction to her defeat. Too many players in my opinion say they have played well when defeated adding that were just beaten by a better player on the day. Nice to see that Heather felt it was a match she could/should have won.
