no i think Cavaday still has the ability to go very far indeed, i just thought it was bizarre people considered her a better prospect than Laura
I don't think anyone actually said that. Just at this stage soime folk would prefer Cav to win this particular match.
Edit : Oops, unless it was me being a bit unclear in talking about Cav having "the underlying ability to go much higher". I was meaning higher than she herself previously has been

Great great win by Lisa fully vindicating the wild card she was awarded. She did have a good draw but you've still got to make the most of it. I think it's fair to say she has taken a big step forward over the last month and should be targeting top 500 status next year as a minimum. As for the Robbo Cav debate I think a Robbo win would be the best for the tournament as she has a greater chance of progressing further if at her best.
Cav a journey woman? Hardly. Cav is a top 50 player if she can get herself together.
Even so, why do people want the potential top 50 player to beat the potential top 5 player?
Let's hang easy a bit here with this and even more with thegingerlightbulb's "potential superstar".
Laura seems to be a really great prospect with a chance of really going somewhere in the game.
But let's give her space and see how she develops over the next 2 or 3 years without pinning so much on her.
Many really top young juniors do not really make it to the top, although I sincerely hope she does.
Re the match, I could take it either way. But I certainly do agree with mervatron that Cav has the potential and underlying ability to go much higher, I'd certainly myself say top 100 and I'd be quite happy to see her win this. It's rather unfortunate that thegingerlightbulb was so dismissive.
Agree 743889727894789432%, just look at Rus, she was the Junior no.1 a year ago and although she got upto around the 120s, now she's losing to the crappiest players and clearly isn't going much further up.
And tennis isn't about supporting the best and most talented players, or else everyone would support the Williams Sisters. I just enjoy Naomi's game much moreand she's certainly one of my faves brit or no brit. I mean I like Laura's game too, I really like it, but I LOVE Naomi's.
And anyhow, yeah, just because Laura has been showing a lot of promise, that doesn't mean that Naomi isn't talented too, because she is.... Extremely talented. Although I have to say, from the reports i've read, it sounds like Naomi's coach has just been encouraging her to hit the ball as hard as possible - no wonder she still hasn't re-cracked the top 200 again...

I'm not pinning anything on Laura Robson, hence the word potential. You get to number 1 in junoirs, win a slam and get to another junior slam final then there is a good reason to say someone is a potential superstar. I'm not trying to be dismissive of Cavaday, but you asurely can't compare the two in terms of talent?!?
fantastic win for lisa, she's moving in the right direction. i'm not a fan of laura's attitude really whilst Heather seems to enjoy it a lot, laura looks like she could become a bit of a madam, but that's just my personal opinion.
Over the moon for Lisa, that's great news indeed. If she can get her forehand to the same standard as her beautiful backhand, she'll be a force to be reckoned with.
To put how well Lisa has done in perspective, I just took Stephen's top 25 table, and sorted by Pts/T ytd. Lisa will average 12 from her 3 counting events even if she doesn't win another match.

But don't those T's include non-scoring tournies (i.e. 8 of Yasmin's)? In which case Lisa, who showed no signs of being a top 350-beater at any point before september, is rather less good. I may be wrong.
But yeah, GREAT win for Lisa. Will rise up to around 643 - like 300 places above her CHR before :D, another win would take her to about 588. Go Lisa!
Yes, that's right, she'll enter the rankings in the top 650 for sure but that's a lot more than 300 places above her CH because as far as I can tell, she's neverbeen ranked before - the CH you noticed was her doubles CH, I think.

I don't think you're the only person who's got that impression though I'd prefer to give Laura the benefit of the doubt for now.

Yes, that's right, I've just added her to the top 25 table (since even at the start of this week, she had more points than quite a few players on there) and I make it that this is her 12th tournament so far this year.
However, even 3 points per tournament puts her ahead of Anna Smith, Tara Moore, etc, and she is GB no. 14 in terms of total points scored so far this year. Lisa has now won 9 of her last 12 matches after, as you say, showing no signs of being a top 350 beater before this summer. I wonder what 'clicked' and why ...
