RE: Week 40 - ITF ($50k) - Barnstaple, Indoor Hard

The draw is just a mess. Hopefully Naomi can take out Laura and heather can beat South.

As for the dubs, i've always wondered why mel doesn't play much dubs anymore, she's a great dubs player, lets hope the kids can win more than one game. :p

You say that, but when I saw her at Shrews she managed to net the ball every single time she came forward - she couldn't buy a volley. But I daresay it was a blip, she's obv pretty good at dubs. But if Heather wins, Mel's going to have a very hard time being top 150 by the year end...

Why would you want Cavaday to beat Robson? Surely it is better a potential superstar beat a journey woman?

Disappointed for Miss Rae and no surprise to see Miss Oates comfortably beaten. Never look at one result and make assumptions.

Both British qualifiers have drawn toughies in the main draw but that just sums this draw up as evil.

Cav a journey woman? Hardly. Cav is a top 50 player if she can get herself together.

Even so, why do people want the potential top 50 player to beat the potential top 5 player? confuse

Given that the top two seeds didn't draw qualifiers, it could be any worse than no. 3 seed Parmentier (for Helen Parish) and no. 4 seed Arvidsson (for Anna Smith) doh - good job they get more points for qualifying than the men do in similar events!

I would like Robbo to beat Cav but I just think she has a tendency to struggle against fellow lefties.
Robbo is probably in better form and she should win but ultimately whoever feels the less pressure will probably prevail.

Some wonderful punnage on the official tournament site: "Smith stings Rae to qualify for main draw"

Let's hang easy a bit here with this and even more with thegingerlightbulb's "potential superstar".

Laura seems to be a really great prospect with a chance of really going somewhere in the game.

But let's give her space and see how she develops over the next 2 or 3 years without pinning so much on her.

Many really top young juniors do not really make it to the top, although I sincerely hope she does.

Re the match, I could take it either way. But I certainly do agree with mervatron that Cav has the potential and underlying ability to go much higher, I'd certainly myself say top 100 and I'd be quite happy to see her win this.  It's rather unfortunate that thegingerlightbulb was so dismissive.

Great to see this such a good win by Lisa after she was given the WC that quite a few of us thought she should indeed have  smile
