I know it's a bit of early to start talking about this but anyway. Bally and O'Brien have withdrawn from this tournament already but there is still plenty of interest with the focus being on the juniors this time. Five of the world's top juniors are slated to appear next week. Babos, Bogdan, Heather , Laura and Mladenovic. It will be fascinating to see how Heather and Laura fare shortly after their heriocs at the US open. Cav, Georgie and Mel are also scheduled to play. Finally who to award the wild cards to is also an interesting decision the LTA have to make. Heather is a certainty to get one but I'm not sure about the other three. Being in a remote part of England this venue is unlikely to see the same viewing from board members as Shrewsbury so no daily reports which is a shame.
At some point though Jade's going to have to stop relying on all these wildcards and get some points! Hope Whybourn can get a win and launch herself high into the rankings (though even a loss will rank her, of course - top 800ish?)

She was DA last week, and there's a chance she won't need her WC next week either. She also qualified in Nottingham and was DA in Birmingham. Hardly an overload of WCs.
Georgie has withdrawn from here as well as from tournaments in the following week - which will hit her chances of gaining enough points to make the Australian Open qualifying, assuming the withdrawal is because of injury (she was seen applying an ice pack after her first match last week) rather than hoping to make qualifying for Linz
I expect its her knee playing up. She wore a band under her knee in Shrewsbury and then had that ice pack on it. I was suprised that she made it onto the court for the second round after seeing that. Must be a bigger problem now.
Laura and Jade currently showing as last two DAs, no 20 & 21. How many qualifiers ?
There should be 22 DA's, 2 SE's (which if not filled will turn into DA's), 4 wild cards and 4 qualifiers. The ITF sometimes goes into spaz and puts in one less DA than there should be.
One more withdrawal and Anna Smith should be in the main draw.
The two seeds to avoid in the draw look to be Pervak and Arvidsson both top 100 players when playing at their best. Pervak hammered Laura in the Aussie Open Junior final and has just won Helsinki without dropping a set whilst Arvidsson won the tournament in Canada in which Heather had a tough first round loss.
