Tennis Europe Under 14 & Under 16 Masters (Week 39)

The end of season Masters events take place from Oct 2-4 in Napoli with the top 8 ranked boys & girls in each age category invited. In the under 14 Boys Luke Bambridge and Evan Hoyt finished 6th and 7th, so were automatically included. However the absence of two invitees has enabled national champion and European Championships finalist Kyle Edmund (ranked 9th) to join the elite field. His chances of making a double celebration next week for Beverley (after confirmation of Katie O'Brien's elevation to the top 100) are enhanced by the absence of Nikola Milojevic, the Serb who has dominated the under 14 circuit.  All three will be out to emulate Liam Broady's success last year, with Rafael Nadal being another former winner.

At under 16 level many top players opt for ITF events (including our Davis Cup trio), so the field here doesn't represent the cream of the age group. Nevertheless Lloyd Glasspool and Connor Glennon have done well to finish 9th and 13th in the rankings, high enough to make it to Napoli after withdrawals.

No British girls have been invited, though Katy Dunne (19) and Eleanor Dean (24) were not far away in the under 14s - Katy would probably have made the cut had she not been injured in July. Eleanor will move into the top 10 once the 1995 girls are removed from the lists.

Last year's event (held elsewhere in Italy) was streamed, so there may be a chance to view.
