Inspired by Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin is also going to make a comeback and re-enter women's tennis. Even though she only went into retirement 16 months ago, Henin says that Clijsters' incredible victory at the US, and the pair's old rivalry, has inspired her to have another go. Do people think that Henin will be able to come back strong and become another real challenger for the Williams sisters?
i know the quality is better in atp, but the majority of the top guys have no on-court personalities apart from tsonga whilst the women are all very emotional and generally produce games of high drama. and all the locker room bitching is fun.
Her coming back on top of Clijster's recent rerturn shoiuld give the women's game a much needed boost.
To my mind, it has been in a pretty poor state quality wise the last couple of years. The Williams sisters barely give the WTA tour a great deal of attention. They play maybe a bit more than people think but particularly Serena's results in no way match her Grand Slam performances. They appear almost just be able to put in a bit more effort for Grand Slams and win.
We have one of the poorest women's no 1 's in many many years in Safina. That said she deserves her no 1 which is a combination of her results through the year and the Williams sisters non results outside Grand Slams. The "glitch" almost that she is no1 whilst not really the best player is in a way more Serena's lack of application outside Grand Slams and changing the points system would just encourage more non concentration for players on "lesser" tournaments.
I am sure Kim put in a great deal of work before she came back but to win the US Open so soon was to my mind an indictment of the quality of the women's game just now.
I agree that there are some real personalities that show emotions, I just wish the general quality was a lot better. So again, Henin's comeback can only help.
I do enjoy some women's games but I certainly enjoy more men's and can't find myself on the same planet that says wta is ten times more entertaining than atp when overall I certainly enjoy ATP more than WTA. But each to their own
As to how will she do ? I would think very well based on how motivated she seems from her comments and based on what Kim has managed so well.,
