Steve G finally comes up trumps on yesterday's results:
Second Round
(1)Pedro Clar (ESP) d. Carlos Calderon (ESP) 6-4 6-2 (7)Agustin Boje (ESP) d. (WC)Martin Trueva (POR) 6-1 6-1 (3)Benoīt Paire (FRA) d. (WC)Gonēalo Pereira (POR) 6-3 2-6 6-3 (6)Joćo Sousa (POR) d. (Q)Jordi Marse (ESP) 6-2 6-1 Oscar Sabate (ESP) d. Florian Reynet (FRA) 6-4 6-3 Pedro Sousa (POR) d. (4)Greg Ouellette (USA) 6-4 4-6 6-3 (8)Morgan Phillips (GBR) d. (LL)Allen Perel (AUS) 6-0 6-2 Dan Smethurst (GBR) d. Marc Giner (ESP) 6-3 6-3
* I knew about the Clar, Paire & J Sousa results from the Portuguese site last night, but I presume they were reported there purely because they involved Portuguese players!
QF: (8) Morgan Phillips WR 563 defeated Dan Smethurst
Only trouble is, I've absolutely no idea of the score: the Portuguese site states only that he'll play Oscar Sabate in tomorrow's semi. Sabate's score is given cos he beat a Portu-goose (Pedro Sousa, by 3 & 2)! The other semi will be between the top seed, Pedro Clar, & the third, Benoīt Paire (who beat the other Sousa, Joćo (6), by 1-6 6-4 6-1), so
SF: (8) Morgan Phillips WR 563 vs Oscar Sabate (ESP) WR 671
A decent chance for Morgan to reach a final? Let's hope so.
Thanks for that, SC. Revenge for Morgan. The Portuguese site is abysmal, always a day behind what's happening.
You're welcome. I agree with your assessment of it, but at least it now shows yesterday's results, which still aren't available on either the ATP or the ITF results pages (because the organisers simply couldn't be @rsed to pass them on?), & the news section occasionally discusses the outcome of non-Portu-goose matches!
The QF win should already have been enough to take him into the top 500 for the first time. Indeed, things have quickly started to look up a bit on that count since we hit an all-time low of just 7 men in the top 500 earlier this summer - first Dan Cox got back in when the points needed to reach the top 500 went down, Chris Eaton should be back in the top 500 on Monday and Dan Smethurst should make it there for the first time too, while now Morgan has virtually guaranteed himself a top 500 place on Monday week.

Another good week for Morgan and I'm sure he'll get another title if he keeps playing like he is at the moment.
At least he's finally got himself to the top 500 and hopefully can kick on from that pretty quickly and get to the point where he's playing challengers (or at least seeded to qualify for them)
