It certainly looks as if Heather is already at least worth a place in the top 200.

We now have at least 6 girls with top 100 potential, Anne, Mel, Elena, Katie, Laura and Heather. Things are looking up. biggrin.gif

Katie needs one more win this week. (eek)

Elena should be there now with todays win but still reliant on other results (of course another win and she's home and dry.)

I would add Cav to that list of potential top 100s. The womens game is in a healthy state but a lot of it is potential at the moment. I hope it all comes to fruition.

Yes, I agree about Cav.  I think she has more potential for a high ranking than at least Mel even with today's result.

If she can bring all the talents she already has together, improve on her weaknesses then definately top 100 potential.

Leaving aside she has actually been to 99 already smile, anyone ranked 146 and still young enough with areas they can develop has to be in the top 100 potential too so Mel still goes in too.

So, it's 7 for me currently    smile

As Mervatron says with Laura, Heather and indeed Cav, at the moment it definately is just potential ( but real potential as they each have already shown at times ) and we must just hope that they really develop their skills and find real consistency over the next few years.

If you are going to include Cav you have to include Georgie as well . Her performance against Zvonereva at Wimbledon this year is better than any performance Cav has put in this year. Very unlucky in all grand slams this year with her draws.

I hear what you say, but I stick to my 7.

With absolute dedication, improve on her weakneses, improve fitness and movement ( and I am pleased to hear encouraging reports of improvements here but no doubt hopefully much more to come ) I just see Naomi as having the steengths to have more chance of making the top 100 than Georgie.

I am not saying she will, and I have been impressed with some of Georgie's performances and would love her to prove me wrong.

It's almost partly a "je ne sais quoi"  but sometimes you just have these feelings and to me it comes out as Cav - yes, Georgie -  no.

One other player that might be considered for inclusion would be Johanna Konta, assuming her nationality change does finally come through. She has moved up the rankings faster than any of our girls so far this year, going from 687 to 366 a 47% improvement.

I would agree with you about Jo. She has all the tools to become a top 100 player.

So basically the list could be moved up to 9 LOL!

The onyl thing thats worried me with georgie is shes got up to 178 and hasn't really moved in a bout 6 months. She is in fact moving down now.

I'm sure she can climb higher, top 150 is a real shout above that who knows but i'd love them all to make the top 100

It is quite common for non-star players to look good as they move up into the top 200, like Georgie did last year, but to struggle when faced with playing at that level all the time, and eventually having the pressure of  defending big points. Georgie needs to learn from Katie, both in terms of winning tight Grand Slam qualifiers and in terms of finding a way whilst struggling  to stay in the top 200 (Katie struggled for several months after first cracking the top 200, and was on track to drop out shortly, when she won matches at Eastbourne/Wimbledon, and after another struggle at her elevated ranking she has again fought her way back).
