An element of me says well so they should be getting semi finalists and finalists in the GB Futures, regularly taking up the vast majority of the places and the seeds and being at home. There have also been some disappointments in GB Futures. Anyway, it's not that hugely impressive to get results there.
But yes, overall, by this week providing all four semi finalists in Nottingham and the other results abroad, with Jamie B overnight providing a 6th semi finalist, it is certainly a good week.
Be great if Morgan and Dan could make it 8 in Portugal ( presume that wouldn't have been matched for some considerable time )
Yes, even I would say it's a "great" week then and be a little less churlish
Good to see that we are going to have a British winner in this event and a clean sweep of the semi finals is never a bad thing.
I would imagine the winner of the first semi final would be the favourite to win the title but Josh getting pushed all the way by Illy may be a sign that he is not at his best (or that Illy played a great match).
Rice continues his strong form by beating Bloomers and I'd imagine he would be expected to reach the final now as well, although Bradshaw has had a very good week and is in some good form.
Probably the expected final from the semi finals and you would imagine that Goodall would go and take the title now which will make a mockery of the fact he supposedly isn't fit.
Another great week for Rice who is consistantly picking up good results and if he keeps this kind of form I would imagine a title isn't too far away, even if it doesn't come this week.
Even if Josh does win the title here I don't think it will make a mockery of the fact he was dropped from the DC team
Because he's so much higher in the rankings than the rest of the guys in this field he should win it even below par. The highest ranked player he's faced has been what, 500ish ?
He lost a set 6-2 to Illingworth who's about 600 places lower and only just scraped past him. On that form he'd have no chance against the Polish duo who both look quite decent from what we've seen so far

The reason given for dropping Josh though was because he wasn't fit and given that he has already won 6 matches this week, including at least one in three sets, so there is clearly nothing wrong with his fitness, leading to the conclusion that he was actually dropped for poor form.
he might be fit enough for squeezing through a succession of best of 3 set matches against much lower ranked players but not fit enough to play two best of 5 set matches in the cauldron of the Davis Cup environment which is a whole different ball game.
The way he's been pushed so hard this week suggest this is the case
great win for Goodall , there to be shot at and still showed true class , strange that some on this site first mentioned he had an illness (LTA's Official reason ) for not being in Davis cup now its moved onto Form or fitness. Strange seeing that R hutchins lack of wins this year is not an issue to be in the Davis cup .
