RE: Week 36 - Futures F13 (10K) - Wrexham, Great Britain

Bains sounds like a complete idiot and his ranking suggests that the gamemanship antics don't work.

My only hopes are that

a) he receives little or no funding
b) he is not in any training groups where he is of influence to younger more talented guys

Chris Eaton looking solid in this tournament so far. Hopefully he can win at least one title this week. Im sure he'd love a singles title, all these juniors are starting to get them and overtake him now soo... he needs to start getting the wins on the belt.

He needs to start going deep in futures on the singles court or hes never gonna get back to being high enough in the ranks to play the big events where he definitely wants to be.

Well as i was ear wigging on the convo the trainer was having with some other players. One who was a girl. She said that they have played each other in training and he did it to her so go figure.

I did get quite close to telling him to shut up myself. At one point i think he started eye balling me so i got a bit scared. LOL!

Yeah, Bains was making the 'grunt' which starts just as his opponent is about to hit the ball in the qualies at Foxhills about a month ago, but wasn't making a sound in his main draw match.  Also he was pretty quiet in the bits I saw of his match at Cumberland last week.

Hmm, maybe he's not trying to emulate mad Dani and he's trying to be the British Michelle Larcher de Cheato instead? wink

Btw good to see Matt Illingworth winning a couple of matches here - he's been doing so badly recently that I expected him to lose to Max Jones in R1, but he won that pretty easily and has made his seeding place. smile.gif

Awesome report. Sounds obviously to me that Bains doesn't rate Illingworth and obviously went OTT at the thought of losing to him. Illingworth does play steady tennis at this level so presumably some of the better brits think he's a bit of a hacker. I'm glad to see he won. Bains is never going to challenge at top level, arguably he should head off to college on sponsorship like many others. These kinds of things happen all the time on the futures circuit. I'm stunned the umpires take all the abuse they receive from some of the players. I've seen alot of appalling behaviour from a lot of the brits and foreigners alike. Its pretty enbarassing for British Tennis.

The same applies to pretty well every British tennis player, to be brutally honest. The only male player who is actually earning a proper living (ie without the LTA travel and coaching support) is Murray. Maybe one or two of the current touring players may join him, no more than that.

he should head off to college on sponsorship

I doubt whether he has this option anymore. If you take more than a year out of education you are permanently ineligible.

Why so hard on the guy? If the rules can be bent, then some people will bend them. Footballers cheat all the time. F1 drivers crash into each other's cars. The umpire should have stomped on him immediately, by the sound of it.

Don't get where you get the Illingoworth is a hacker thing. He was the one totally on the offensive yesterday. Bains is a 'pusher' if i ever saw one, just gets the ball back into play. Towards the end he started to unleash a bit on his backhand. Illingworths main problem yesterdya was everytime he went for a big forehand he went down the line, he should have gone fpor a few inside out cross court ones. Baines read this quite quick so knew what to expectand just looped the ball back.

The umpire defo should have put his foot down quicker. Once the umpire told him to shut up he did so....

Maybe the two of them don't get on? I don't know.

I'm begining to feel wrexham is the place to go to watch tennis after this this year and 2 years ago watching Bryden Kleins infamous hissy fit where he ended up throwing he racket over the fence into someones back garden.

Not suprised that Josh lostGrigelis looked like a good player.

It wouldn't shock me if there were no brits in the final but Rice is the best bet for a win.

Doubles final is between Eaton/Inglot (GBR/1) who saw off the 4th seeds, in a close match, 6-3 3-6 [11-9] and

Anderson/O'Brien(RSA/IRL) who beat Bradshaw/Jones (GBR) in two sets, 6-3 7-5.

I would hope the Brit pair could take the title. please.gif
