Just got back from wrexham. It was an interesting day. All the above matches had finished when i left just after 1pm. Bloomers had just lost the 1st set 6-1 and was playing badly. Anderson on the other hand was playing very well.

Milton held in the 1st game 1-0 when i left.

Bettles didn't play well at all but in almpost everyh rally his shots were landing on the service line so it allowed O'Brien to dictate the play. He just seemed to be out hit all the time.

Rice played a terrible tie-break then really got going and his oponent kinds of fell apart. Didn't see much of Eaton but he seemed solid from what i saw, there were a few lazy shots but overall not bad.

The Pauffley match was a great one, lasted around 2 hours. It went with serve untill 2-3 when his opponent broke him. Pauffley managed to break back and hold to make it 5all. In the break Neil went 1-3 down then 5-3 up when he hit a great serve but missed the put away shot for the winner and followed this up with a DF. He kind of fell apart in the second set at 1-4 down he got the trainer on looked like a lower back or hop problem.

The Illingworth/Bains match was like a pantomine. It took longer to finish than the Bettles and Eaton matches combined.

Illingworth went 4-0 up totally outplaying his opponent, so then Bains decided to basically cheat. It started with 'grunts' from nowhere, they were a la Schiavone i'e he actually did he grunt just before Matt hit the ball. This was then followed with shouting Venga or Benga after every point, then he started with saying things like 'Oh this set is over i'm just warming up for the second set' and 'Oh that was an amazing shot' and all this kind of **** tpo put off Matt. It obviously worked as Matt started to miss and it was 4-2. He held it together to win the set though 6-2. Oh he started shotuing this aswell like ' Go for his backhand and break it down'. After the 1st set he went for a bathroom break and then called the trainer on for some leg thing obviously faking.

So he went 2-0 up in the 2nd and had 0-40 on Illingworths serve but Matt played a great set of points to hold, so it went to 2-3 Baines serving and he had no stopped with all the gamesmanship. Oh forgot to say he got a warning towards the end of the 1st set for unsportmalike conduct for all this 'cheating' but he got this after he said to the umpire ' Youve got glasses so you obviously can't see properly so why are you an umpire'?

So Illingworth broke back to make it 3all then the gamesmanship started again with the benga/Venga. They had a couple of points that must have bee 30+ strokes which Baines tended to loose so he would say OMG i'm so unfit and then take about a minute before the enxt point. he should have been given a time violoation and had a penalty point.

So it then went with serve and Illingworh got to MP at 6-2 5-4 Baines serving. Bains walks over to his chair and asks for the trainer. All the people watching the match started laughing and couldn't believe it. Anyway they started pkaying again and thank the lord Matt won the next point to win.

I overheard the trainer talking to some other players and i'm pretty sure he said that Baines said to him 'Oh i just wanted to slwo him down on MP' when he came on the secon time. Have to say i did start clapping all the time for Illingworht cos Baines was so bloody annoying.

Isn't Bains the one who screams like a strangled cat as well?

He's clearly modelling himself on mad Dani.

haha yes he does sound as Josh said "like a cat being put down"

i think the Koellerer parellels are pretty justified, though Dani's in my better books after the way he went after Fran last week

Not really that suprised that Bloomfield lost he was playing terribly.

I might go back on friday depending on whos in the semis.

Eaton/Illingworth will go on who keeps the UF erros down, they both seems to hit great shots but then sloppy shots.

Yeah, Bains was making the 'grunt' which starts just as his opponent is about to hit the ball in the qualies at Foxhills about a month ago, but wasn't making a sound in his main draw match.  Also he was pretty quiet in the bits I saw of his match at Cumberland last week.  Maybe he only does it when he plays another Brit. confuse
