RE: US Open 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em 2009

But With Nadal not being at 100%, and Gasquet having something to prove after his ban, and knowing that Gasquet is a very good player on its day , I just see it happening GEM or Not

Actually I was half tempted myself by that one but Gasquet's off-colour at the moment himself so I went for Nadal instead but I totally see where you're coming from.

Yes, I don't think Dammit will be quite ready for the USO. If he was back to being fully match fit already, I'd have fancied his chances.

For those still to pick - Fish has withdrawn (Rib) and will be replaced by Rui Machado

I'm in. I accidentally forgot to answer the last set of questions though :( Oops!

My slightly 'off-the-wall' pick was Querrey making the quarters.

If he loses round 1 I will DESTROY HIM WITH MY CAPS LOCK OF ANGER.

I'm also on Querrey to reach the last eight as with the draw he has, he's perfectly capable of doing it as long as all the matches he's played recently doesn't take it's toll on him.

I suppose , for legal reasons, we are not allowed to call him a CSM ....

Hoping so too. If he hadn't beaten Davydenko this week I might have thought twice about it but PFFFFT. Snore-choo man best not beat him now... :P

The first epic match of the US Open has finished with Greul beating Lapentti 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(9)

Lapentti had been up 4-2 and 40-15 on Greul's serve, then had six game points on serve at 4-3 before being broken.

Greul then held a match point at 6-5 but it went to the tiebreak. Lapentti led 3-1, Greul led 5-3, Lapentti then had MP's at 6-5, 7-6 (on serve) and 8-7, Greul had another one at 9-8, before taking his 3rd MP at 10-9!!!

All this to decide who gets destroyed by Federer in the next round.

I think I picked Greul in this epic encounter, or at least, I hope I did!!!

What a sitcom! I had Lapentti to win, just my luck.
Its a good job I'm hardened to the disappointment.....after following Boggo for all these years!

How did Devin Britton with an all time high singles ranking of 1364 take 11 games off Fed ?
Fed won 6-3 6-3 7-5

Too be fair it wasn't like Fed was remotely out of 1st gear for the entire match, probably conserving energy for the latter rounds, he wasn't running about the court to chose balls where he would against say Murray

Also, Britton is only 18 and therefore on the rise in the rankings. He also reached the Wimbledon junior semi final and won Roehampton, so is clearly a decent young talent and will end his career with a much higher career high than he currently has.

Britton looked like a top 30 player maybe, im not sure he is consistent enough to get higher. Also his footwork is really sloppy, most guys who are 6'2 on tour move really well
