Shocking day for the lads, really shocking. The girls on the other hand...
The girls, on the other hand, did Britain proud: four out of five through to the second round, including a shock (according to the Beeb) "seed-killing" by young Laura, who took full advantage of her qualies wild card!
Women did an awesome job - we were a tb away from a perfect 5/5, though that loss was to a former top 50er not too long ago. Hope they keep it up, the men were shocking.
It's safe to say that is a day to forget for the Brits.
Boggo really should have won his match having been a break up twice in the second set and held a match point, but it seems it was a return do the old Boggo who given his good results over the summer and how well he had done in tight matches, we thought had disappeared. The sad thing about it is that it could have been predicted that he'd drop serve when serving for the match and then fall away in the third set.
Ward's loss was entirely predicted and given his form on a hard court this year and the way Levy has played, that was the kind of scoreline we would have expected from him. Hope he can get back to the clay and find some form now.
Felt Evans had a decent chance to win his match and he got close, but he needs to improve his play in a tiebreak as that's three in a row he's lost 7-0. Had chances to win the match it seems and Silva is the kind of player he really should be beating if he is to make the kind of move up the rankings we expect from him. (and the players he is fighting with in terms of his age group include Janowicz, who won his first round match, as did Dimitrov, while Del Bonis has qualifed and thrashed a seed in Manerbio (and probably now should make the final given how the draw has opened up))
Hopefully they can all recover from their losses and find some form and make a better attempt of Aussie Open qualifying.
at least the USO draw is about 10000 times quicker than the champions league one. its already been on for 25 mins and they have drawn 1/4 of the teams, so its going to take close to 2hrs at this rate!
