Eek what happened there - Georgie was 3-4* down, then got two m/bs to go *5-4 up but now seems to have lost cry

Katie has won the 1st set 6-3 though smile

Dissapointing but sounds about right for British women

Apparantly Dominika Cibulkova has withdrawn, so if I'm not mistaken, that should open up a LL spot which Katie or Elena should have a good shot at if they can both get to FQR.

Edit: Brianti has been moved up to the MD, so the withdrawal must have been before 11AM.

Battling effort by Georgie against a tough opponent but she does seem to struggle to win tight matches.

How many ladies to go through? I feel that a really good 3 or 4 will make it through yet sadly, I just cannot see any of the gents getting through.

Very good win for Katie against a tricky opponent . Good chances to qualify if she really believes she can do it.

She has won. One of her better matches. Well played. Sure you will reach top 100 very soon.

Katie looked like she played a tidy match against such a talented player - nice to see. I bet she has high expectations here - she should!

Katie is used to dealing with young upstarts in grand slams, so I had little doubt that she would win. Georgie did well to get back into her match, but it is the third slam out of four where she has suffered an agonising defeat. She should take some heart from the fact that Katie had a number of similar results at this level before she got used to winning. Georgie needs to follow Katie's improvement quickly though, before losing tight matches in slams becomes too much of a habit.

For the record Katie won 6-3 6-2

She'll have to beat another talented young upstart in the next round if Tatashvili wins as expected.

Anna Tatishvili duly wins. She will be a tougher opponent than Hofmanova, having won a couple of Grand Slam qualifiers and been successful in US hardcourt tournaments, but I think Katie can win
