Not totally surprised by this, he is a married man and I guess he wants to start a family and wants to start earning a solid wage as I suspect he is not making much profit from playing challenger level doubles.
At the moment he is not that far away from making the top 100, so maybe if he gets some good results between now and the end of the season he will reconsider.
Will always remember when he qualified and reached the QF's at ATP Mumbai, and when he reached the final of a ATP doubles tournament (Delray Beach?).
its always sad when a player opts to retire, but he is closing in on 30 and may feel now is the time to move elsewhere, the grind of the tour can eventually catch up and if you lose the passion then its time to stop. I'm guessing he will go into coaching with the LTA in some form as most of the ex-players seems to do.
