R1: (Q) Alexander Ward WR 923 v Marcel-Ioan Miron (ROU) WR 754 R1: (Q) Maniel Bains WR 997 v (Q) Marco Dierckx (BEL) WR 932
All of our guys are in the top half of the draw with Daniel potentially facing Maniel in R2
Alex lost 3 & 2. Maniel put up more of fight, but eventually succumbed to his fellow qualifier 3-6 6-3 4-6 - less of a rankings gap, so no second-round encounter with Dan...
Miron was a bit of a Brit-basher today: in the doubles, he & his compatriot, Erlic, WR 2077, eventually overcame Maniel & his Belorussian partner, Nikolai Fidirko, WR 2092 , in another tight match 6-2 4-6 [10-3]. That leaves Alex & Marcus Willis, the seeds, as the only Brit interest in the doubles.
R2: (7) Marcus Willis WR 668 vs (WC) Yannick Reuter (BEL) UNR R2: Dan Smethurst WR 809 vs (Q) Marco Dierckx (BEL) WR 932
Presumably a good chance for both to progress to the QFs - hope that's not the kiss of death!
Good day for Marcus. He & Alex Ward, the second seeds in the doubles (WR1753), beat Haehnle & Métenier (FRA/FRA) WR 2910 2 & 5 to reach the SF, where they will face the third seeds, Stephan Fransen & Bart Govaerts (NED/BEL) WR 1771.

You've missed out a round there. Those matches are only the 2nd round, they need one more win for the quarters.
Oops, so I have! Thanks for pointing it out, Josh. I wish I could say it was because I'd been referring to one of those bloody useless draw sheets the ITF makes available, but it was a PDF... Instead, I'll put it down to a combination of the time of day at which I posted & the euphoria of Middlesbrough's first back-to-back away wins (Swansea on Saturday & "Sunny Scunny" yesterday evening) since the "Wally with the brolly" was in charge! I would have edited my own post, but I see Drew just couldn't wait, though he did miss my reference to the SFs, which I've now dealt with...
[Doubles] Final CHAKI (MAR) / DE FAYS (BEL) (1) Vs WARD (GBR) / WILLIS (GBR) (2)
Chaki & de Fays won 3 & 2. I assume Belgium was affected by something similar to the torrential rain which disrupted the World Athletics Championships yesterday, which is why there is still no sign of the singles SF results.
