RE: Davis Cup - Euro Africa Zone I Play-offs - GBR v Poland 18-20 September 2009

A minority view perhaps but I'd say Eaton - since he performed well last time out.

I see OEM says Andy has been on court at the NTC - I guess that makes it less likely he will duck out of the tie - due to the wrist injury.

Anyone know what OEM is alluding to with his last paragraph?

maybe he is alluding to Goodall being in poor form and dropped for that rather than the official reason of illness? i dunno

Oh, OEM being a bit naughty, say what you're thinking man  smile

Re the US Open, though, he is absolutely right about scheduling, both re how late they put on the mens quarters on Thursday with weather threatening and just generally.

Think last year when there was the remnants of a hurricane heading for New York and everyone knew heavy rain was going to arrive, and they didn't show the absolutely obvious common sense and start the Murray v Nadal semi on say Louis Armstrong at the same time as the Federer semi.  Far too belatedly they did start it on Louis Armstrong and the rain arrived ( later than actually forecast ) after 3 sets.

If they had started at the obvious ( to most ) time, it would probably have finished that day and the final could have been played on Sunday.  Similarly this year, they could easily have had the mens quarters completed on Thursday.

I mean the US Open schedule is crap at best of times ( TV rules ! ) with both men's and women's semis the day before their final, but they sure have an ability to make things worse.  Farce !

Time the players spoke up more if they aren't already.

I see they've also said that people with tickets for Saturday will only be able to use them for Sunday and people with tickets for Sunday will only be able to use them for Monday, which is some ways is fairer than the Wimbledon method, but in practice is much less sensible because there are bound to be loads of people who bought tickets for Sunday knowing they could make it then who won't be able to make it on Monday.

Edit: see below

Sunday sounds pretty crowded biggrin

I guess you mean Saturday for Sunday and Sunday for Monday - i agree it is fairer though not as practical

With the team of-

Andy Murray
James Ward
Colin Fleming
Ross Hutchins.

Choosing a surface for this team is quite difficult, the doubles players will want a fast court.

James would prefer a slower court.

Murray can win on anything.

So surely you go with a slow court in hope that James can win a match, because were not winning the doubles.

Indoors, I would have thought there was more chance of Evo winning a match than James Ward.

I am kinda assuming the court surface has already been chosen and set in stone ( well not lierally smile )

Do we know how fast it is meant to be ?

I wouldn't have thought it was going to be particularly slow, but unless it is I agree with Mad that Evo would have seemed a more sensible pick than Ward.

But maybe there is more to it than meets the eye, eh  OEM ?  smile

Perhaps it's the "pretend you're really keen to play and then when you pull out at the last minute through 'injury' people will be less harsh" tactic. Good to see the PR improving, if nothing else.

Just seen a feature on the BBC Local news in the Northwest.

Andy and the team playing football tennis/volleyball with David Moyes, Leon Osman and Tim Cahill of Everton.

Andy seemed pretty commited to the tie. Evans seemed to be other other singles player on show.

They interviewed Ken Skupski but unfortunately the caption and pronunciation was Ken Skupsi.

Anyone know if Kubot can still be drafted into the team? he lost 1st rd to Serra and isn't in the dubs? i assume the Poles can still alter the team (just like we can to bring in Evans right)

Last chance to snag a spare ticket with the mob from am.com - we've a couple of seats for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

If you haven't yet decided to go and need a 'nudge' these are at a discounted rate.
You'll need to PM me before 6pm on Thursday though........
