Week 32 Challenger - Brasilia-2 ($35k+H) - Brazil - hard

L32: (7) Josh Goodall WR 189 v Marcel Felder (URU) WR 268
L32: James Ward WR 206 v (5) Eduardo Schwank (ARG) WR 161

Given the surface, Josh couldn't have asked for much nicer draw, with a qualifier or the Dominican Republic's finest (Estrella) awaiting the winner in R2 and if Wardy had to get a seed in R1 here, Schwank was probably the best one to get.

Schwank can be a bit dodgy, his ranking has dropped like a stone recently

Josh should get through round one and hopefully the second round as well, but not too sure about James.

Schwank has had a horrible time on the ATP tour this season, but seems to tear up challengers whenever he plays them, winning loads last year and then one a few weeks ago, so would expect him to get the win.

huge week for Josh here, a lot of points to defend, winning the title would still leave him 1 short - thanks ATP!

Will GB's new Number 2 step up to the plate?

Winning the doubles title in Campos do Jordão last week must have taken too much out of Goody & Groth:  no sign of them in the Brasilia OoP! hmm  Too much at stake in the singles for them? confused.gif  James, on the other hand, has teamed up with Kristian Pless again & they play Jorge Aguilar & Fabrice Martin (CHI/FRA) in the first round.

Not sure where they are playing next, but perhaps one of them wants to try singles qualies somewhere next week and so didn't want the doubles to be tieing them down and stopping them from being able to play somewhere, and because they were still in the other event, they couldn't find a partner as they weren't on site.

Schwank has withdrawn.

James now plays Alexandre Bonatto of Brazil, a LL.

Bonatto is currently ranked 407 with a career high of 332 earlier this month.

He has won a few Brazialian futures this year as well as making a few finals and semi-finals so he's no mug.

Hopefully he'll find James is a class above.

That's a stroke of luck for Josh! Hopefully he should make quarters now

And unfortunately, they still haven't managed a win together, losing 6-7(5) 1-6. cry

Nice stroke of luck for James to see Schwank pull out and gives him a great chance of getting through a couple of rounds if he can find his form.

With Boggo also losing this is just turning out to be Emmbarassing for british tennis. At this rate we will have no players in qualies for US Open.
Marcel Felder (URU) d. (7) Joshua Goodall (GBR) 6/4 2/0 ret.
(LL) Alexandre Bonatto (BRA) d. James Ward (GBR) 6/3 7/6(2)

Well Fukin Done Boggo, Goodall, Ward
