RE: Week 32 - Futures F28 ($15K) - Irún, Spain - clay

"In my opinion this board has deteriorated recently since so many have a nickname many of which have no obvious connection with the player"

Marcus Willis loves eating meatballs for dinner, David Rice is a big James Bond fan and Josh Goodall plays Super Smash Bros. before every big match (probably)

I couldn't help laughing at this, but MJD does have a point. I think it's ok using the player's real nicknames (Boggo, Bloomers, Dr No, Meatball, Wardinator, etc) but making up obscure nicknames just for the sake of it must be confusing to people who don't read this site all the time.

Then again, I do far worse things than this in the BOTB reports so I can't really talk, but that's because BOTB is designed to have its silly side. Well, that's my excuse anyway! smile.gif

Should go with Major for Morgan. Did anyone else have a Major Morgan as a child?

That's too obscure. Ah-ha.

Well done Morgan....dont we have a nick-name for this guy yet ?

Anyway....great chance for a final appearance !

I dont understand why he has to have a nickname!
In my opinion this board has deteriorated recently since so many have a nickname many of which have no obvious connection with the player, making some threads difficult to follow. Surely it is easier to use the real name (first name or surname) or general nickname eg. Boggo and Bloomers which are easily recognised.

Well said, Mike! clap.gif  Couldn't agree more. smile  In fact, I considered posting sentiments along the lines of those you have expressed when I first saw Drew's post last night, but then decided against it because I thought everybody else would come down on me like the proverbial ton of bricks for daring to question the idea! hmm

The use of nicknames is interesting.

Normally you only use someone's nickname when you know them well, and have been "authorised" to use it.

Clearly not many people who use this board have close relationships with any of the players, and so it would normally be considered inappropriate. It pretends a friendship which you simply do not have.

But being a "fan" gives you a sort of licence to use the nickname of a famous person. No-one would think twice about calling Ryan Giggs "Giggsy", for example.

But it still seems a bit odd for fairly obscure tennis players.

Great win for Morgan and back to back finals now!!!

Think he's got a decent chance of winning the title tomorrow which would be great for him and help his rise up the rankings and it looks like a top 500 finish to the year is a possibility for him.

Well done to him. thumbsup.gif  I was thinking only yesterday that Brezac was looking ominous again this week, but I'll be keeping me fingers well & truly crossed for him tomorrow. pray.gif

Two Finals in a row for Morgan smile.gif - last week's run got him back in the top 700 and this week's run should get him back in the top 600, with both Marray and Eaton (not to mention Morgan's own pre-injury career high!) likely to be taken out by him on Monday week if he can win the Final unless one of them does ok in a Challenger next week.

Brezac is in very good form though and is 5-0 v Brits including a win against Bloomers earlier this month.

Not to be in the final but another very good week for Morgan and if he keeps playing like this, his ranking will continue to shoot up.
