Courtside - Just had the ceremony and speech by Flembo. Good crowd which sided with Flemski (maybe cheering in French Canadian helped them). Thought we were heading for another MTB at some point but Flemski managed to break Levy for the first time to get back on serve and that got the boys pumped up.
They are now getting ready to head for Montreal to catch their plane for Vancouver. Too bad we won't be in Vancouver next week but we'll be able to catch them up in Binghamton. I should be able to post live score from Binghamton with a mifi.
Someone will be posting live score in Vancouver if wireless is working.
Good tournament Flemski - this was very enjoyable...
p.s. I was wearing my Flemski cap the whole match.
Brilliant for Flemski to win the tournament after saving two match points in their first match and with Colin's shoulder injury. It breaks their recent drought in finals as well which is a monkey off their backs.
Hopefully they can take this form into Vancouver next week but the field will be stronger with it being a 100k and there is only one ATP event (which is a 500 series). Also it will hopefully see the return on James Auckland after his spell in WTT.
Great win for them and even better for them to not have to do it in the match tiebreak and break the run of final losses.
Hope they can keep this going and do well again in Vancouver, although the field could well be a bit stronger, but they definately look like they are heading for the top 100 and beyond.
They are making a strong case for Davis Cup selection as well, and against most other countries at this level, it probably could be the way to go. But with Poland's strength being in doubles and having a top 10 team, it's unlikely that Fleming and Skupski will beat them and thus isn't the best idea to select them if they aren't going to get the point.
Best chance of winning the doubles is Andy Murray and someone else, but Murray probably won't want to play all three days, so our next best chance would probably be to win another singles rubber.
Well done! A good week to come through considering Col had a shoulder twinge. Shows fighting spirit and not a little . I shall be following their progress and hoping they continue to improve and progress. It'd be great to have a decent doubles pair from GBR who can compete with the best.
They are making a great case to be the doubles selection. Having a settled pair in the slot is perhaps a better idea than having a scratch pair and hope they 'click'
