According to the beeb the first lot of scores are:
Martin Fischer (Aut) bt Colin OBrien (Irl) 6-1 6-2
Pierrick Ysern (Fra) bt Daniel Smethurst (Gbr) 7-6 (7-4) 6-3
Clement Reix (Fra) bt Andrew Fitzpatrick (Gbr) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4
Jean-Noel Insausti (Fra) bt Marcus Daniell (Nzl) 2-6 6-3 6-1
Charles-Antoine Brezac (Fra) bt Timothy Bradshaw (Gbr) 6-2 6-3
Sadik Kadir (Aus) bt Tom Burn (Gbr) 6-4 6-4
Ludovic Walter (Fra) bt Matthew Illingworth (Gbr) 7-5 7-6 (7-5)
Chris Eaton (Gbr) bt Barry King (Irl) 7-6 (7-4) 6-3
Mathieu Rodrigues (Fra) bt Baptiste Bayet (Fra) 6-4 6-2
Kyle Brassington (Gbr) bt George Coupland (Gbr) 6-3 2-6 6-2
Riccardo Ghedin (Ita) bt Alexander Ward (Gbr) 6-4 6-4

Chris Eaton and Kyle B thru along with DrNo but otherwise no positive surprises yet. Though the scorelines against higher ranked opponents mostly look pretty competitive.

I would say Illingworth winning so many games against Walter is a massive positive surprise. Bit of a shame as I would have hoped that one out of Smethurst or Bradshaw would win, but hey well.

Neil PAUFFLEY (GBR) defeated Daniel COX (GBR) (7) 2-6 6-3 6-3

I seriously don't know what's wrong with Dan of late. confused.gif Does he have a minor injury or something? No disrespect to Pauffers and I'm sure he played brilliantly, but normally Dan doesn't lose to players ranked below him, let alone ranked a few hundred places below him.

Doubles main draw finally out:  Chris Eaton & Martin Fischer (AUT) the top seeds.  Lots of Brit partnerships, Chris's the only "mixed" one - & no other seeds...

Eaton and Fischer should win the doubles in my view, if they play as good as they can in singles on the doubles court, which im sure they can; both having solid doubles rankings, they should cruise through that draw.

Sean Thornley's defeat of the Dutch third seed, Michel Koning, by 7-6(4) 2-0 default (?) is probably the surprise package there. biggrin

As implied by the above, a couple of today's results were so mad that you'd think the tournament was being held in Barking.

It's almost as if the fabled 'top 500 curse' has struck again too, with Milton hitting the buffers just as he seemed like a shoe-in to be the next Brit to get there and Dan hitting a big dowswing in form once he had scraped in.

L32: -no Brit- (1) Martin Fischer (AUT) WR 199 beat Colin O'Brien (IRL) WR 669 by 1 & 2 blankstare
L32: Dan Smethurst WR 816 lost to Pierrick Ysern (FRA) WR 547 by 7-6(4) 6-3 cry
L32: (Q) Andrew Fitzpatrick WR 1214 lost to Clement Reix (FRA) WR 724 by 7-6(5) 6-4 cry
L32: -no Brit- (5) Jean-Noel Insausti (FRA) WR 433 beat Marcus Daniell (NZL) WR 847 by 2-6 6-3 6-1 blankstare
L32: (Q) Sean Thornley WR 848 beat (3) Michael Koning (NED) WR 310 by 7-6(4) 2-0 default(!) biggrin
L32: (Q) Timothy Bradshaw WR 1055 lost to Charles-Antoine Brezac (FRA) WR 569 by 2 & 3 cry
L32: (Q) Tom Burn UNR lost to Sadik Kadir (AUS) WR 539 by 2 & 4 cry
L32: Matthew Illingworth WR 735 lost to (6) Ludovic Walter (FRA) WR 552 by 7-5 7-6(5) cry
L32: (8) Chris Eaton WR 530 beat Barry King (IRL) WR 749 by 7-6(4) 6-3 smile
L32: -no Brit- (Q) Frederik Sletting-Johnsen (NOR) UNR beat Enrico Ianuzzi (ITA) WR 795 by 4 & 3 blankstare
L32: (Q) Burnham Arlidge WR 846 beat Josh Milton WR 541 by 2-6 6-3 6-4 biggrinbleh
L32: -no Brit- (4) Mathieu Rodrigues (FRA) WR 330 beat (Q) Baptiste Bayet (FRA) WR 1409 by 4 & 2 blankstare
L32: (Q) Neil Pauffley WR 1274 beat (7) Dan Cox WR 508 by 2-6 6-3 6-3 biggrinbleh
L32: (WC) David Rice WR 684 beat Thomas Cazes-Carrere (FRA) WR 589 by 1 & 2 biggrin
L32: (WC) Kyle Brassington WR 996 beat (WC) George Coupland WR 1590 by 6-3 2-6 6-2 smilecry
L32: (WC) Alex Ward WR 932 lost to (2) Riccardo Ghedin (ITA) WR 223 by 4 & 4 cry

L16: -no Brit- (1) Martin Fischer (AUT) WR 199 v Pierrick Ysern (FRA) WR 547
L16: -no Brit- (5) Jean-Noel Insausti (FRA) WR 433 v Clement Reix (FRA) WR 724
L16: (Q) Sean Thornley WR 848 v Charles-Antoine Brezac (FRA) WR 569
L16: -no Brit- (6) Ludovic Walter (FRA) WR 552 v Sadik Kadir (AUS) WR 539
L16: (8) Chris Eaton WR 530 v (Q) Frederik Sletting-Johnsen (NOR) UNR
L16: (Q) Burnham Arlidge WR 846 v (4) Mathieu Rodrigues (FRA) WR 330
L16: (WC) David Rice WR 684 v (Q) Neil Pauffley WR 1274
L16: (WC) Kyle Brassington WR 996 v (2) Riccardo Ghedin (ITA) WR 223

So, 5 Brits left. It's hard not to see Eaton and Dr No winning, hard not to see Arlidge (v the defending champion) and Brassington (v the no. 2 seed) losing, and the Thornley v Brazac match should be close after Sean's excellent win today.

All 2nd round singles matches and 1st round doubles matches will be played on indoor courts tommorow according to the oop. I dont think they played indoors today, but it must have rained sometime today or a bad weather forecast for tommorow for them to say they will be indoors?

That wont help our british, aggressive serve-volleyers like Eaton and Rice as moving onto indoor hard will be slower than the grass :(. But hopefully they can push through, they should be winning there matches on any courts tbh really though as they are against weak ranked players- no offence to Pauffley.
