RE: Week 30 - Womens WTA ($700K) - Stanford, USA

That was a terrible first set and slightly better second, though I think Elena played a very good match. Anne just had no tactics tbh, you cant try and out hit Elena because it just isnt going to work unless you play an almost perfect match.

Thats why Venus Williams deals with Elena with ease, leading the h2h 8-2 as she is happy to close down the net when possible. Serena on the other hand tries to outhit Elena from the baseline and hence she has a far tighter h2h, and is in fact losing the h2h if you ignore the matches played when Serena was at her absolute peak (Serena 2-4 Elena from 2007-present)

When Elena herself was forced to move up the court or come to net, I think Anne won virtually all the points, and yet she didnt seem to notice :(

Oh well, nice effort, lets hope for a better draw in LA.

Nice try Anne. She's nowhere near a top 20 player, let alone top 5.

I'm concerned that she's had a really rough few months, and her confidence must be pretty low. She needs wins before the US Open, I just hope she can find something and get them.

TennisReporters Anne Keothavong injured her knee when she ran into a fence chasing a shot. Going to hospital. Was heard screaming. about 4 hours ago from web

This sounds really bad.

The "I think I know already part really scares me, remember, last time she had a knee injury she was out for like 6 months.

Oh no, that sounds bad, really could be quite serious. For the smidgen of difference it makes the result in the doubles match was:

Coin/Pelletier (FRA/CAN) d. Keothavong/Morita (GBR/JPN) 46 53 ret.

What horrific bad luck. cry

If it is so bad that it takes her out for the rest of the season, once very small consolation is that she has already done enough to end the season at around WR 100, so she would still get direct entry to the 2010 AO. Hopefully it won't come to that though.

Barely, though, I was really hoping that if she could get a few good draws in the slams and mandatories this year she could really break through into the top 40/maybe even 30 but this has completely ****ed it up. Fingers crossed for her! That's all we can do.
