RE: Career and Best Wins

I can't remember if it was the mens or ladies table, but the criteria allowed retirements only if the first set had been won.

Yes, the women's table has a match counting if the winner on retireemnt was a set up.  Seems reasonable to apply the same criteria to the men's table.

Toby Martin was a set up, Matt Short wasn't.

It was high time Mr Rice was moving up that table a bit, I did think he seemed relatively very low.

Next stage, a top 200 win sometime smile

New tables

It never fails to amaze me how many times the existence of this message board unearths people who have either been keeping stats on British tennis themselves and/or have been inspired by what we do to go even further than we have in various areas.

The latest manifestation of this is the provision of a couple of tables of career best wins for British men (at http://t.co/TSnlsnT) and British women (via a link at the top of the men's page) which between them list career best wins for all British players who have ever been ATP- or WTA-ranked who have beaten someone in the top 500 and for current players who have beaten someone in the ATP top 1500 or the WTA top 1300 - 183 GB men and 186 GB women in all (!) at this stage.

The compiler is too shy to want to be named (or way too cool to want to be 'outed' as a compiler or stats, who knows wink) but is intending to keep the tables updated.

I get the impression that the compiler contacted me in the first instance so as not to tread on the toes of those here who have done a fair bit of work in this area but hopefully even those people will agree that it would be silly to keep tables as comprehensive as this hidden away.

Having tables on web pages like that also makes it more feasible to link to them from the BT stats page, as I did with TMS's GB YTD stats page. Before I do though, there must be a few "E&O(E)" in pages containing that much info (though I didn't spot any at first sight!), so if anyone spots anything that needs to be corrected, please let me know and I will feed comments back to the compiler.

Yes, Helen is the 'shy' compiler I mentioned 3 posts above, who has now admitted to advanced stats geekery

She explains a bit more at http://helenparish.co.uk/2012/02/12/career-best-wins-for-british-tennis-players/

CH win for George Morgan over the no 3 seed in Croatia F2, assuming we can trust George's own tweet smile

"Won my match today against 3 seed 7-6 6-4. 2nd on tomorrow against a qualifier."

That no 3 seed is Timo Nieminen ( FIN ) WR 312

Beats his win over Matwe Middelkoop iWR 338, his very first ranking point win from Glasgow in January 2010.

Kyle's win today is his career best, beating his previous best win against Sean Thornley.
