Dimitrov is potentially a top 5 player and slam champion but "the new Federer"? i don't think so. i watched him play Nadal he looked good but not THAT good

He's without a doubt extremely talented. It's just that these wild cards make him look like someone who wants a career in reality TV and not tennis - why can't he be low profile and play normal tournaments like everyone? Did he REALLY need to play a clay tournament in the middle of the fast season?
It'll probably end in tears unless things change.

I think the Matosevic match should be a good yardstick for how much Boggo has progressed since April. Things were looking pretty tough for him then (i think Vandenburg had Boggo down to retire at the end of the year.....again!) but he's really turned it around recently, 5 out of 6 wins with his only loss being a retirement. He should really push Matosevic all the way tomorrow and hopefully beat him.

FD, Dimitrov has a lot to defend in September - 72 points in two weeks, in fact. But then if you believe what Lundgren says, he'll probably win a Masters and a Tour event this year, so it's all good in camp Dimitrov.
Tomic doesn't play much tennis (or manages to get himself banned), so he won't catch up unless he does well in big events or wins smaller Challengers.
[...]
At this moment I'd probably back Rufin or Del Bonis to just do enough to end the year ranked the highest, just ahead of Evans, but Tomic to be ranked higher than all of them if he plays enough events to do so. Dimitrov could challenger as well, but that's all dependent on whether he puts his talent together for a consistant period (I think he needs just one event where he qualifies and then goes deep and things may click for him.)
Just for the record, in case it's any help as a yardstick, del Bonis was a LL in the MD in the Recanati (Italy) euro 30,000 Challenger this week & lost 6-2 0-6 4-6 to Freddie Nielsen in the L16 of the singles yesterday...

Yeh i think that tennis compared to other sports the word 'Potential' is very big.
richard 'i like toilet cubicles in nigt clubs' gasquet was tipped as world number one
i also remember saying guilbis was a future world beater
and then there was jaimee delgado winning that junior thing in south america.

Thats why Andy has been so impressive in rising to world number 3. I know he hasn't won a Grand Slam yet but the way he has trained and built himself up to add to the obvious talent deserves more credit that it gets I feel.
Boggo first on stadium one tonight, starting at 11am local time. Evo is 2nd on court 3. their dubs quarter is 4th on court 2 and if they win that, they will play the semi last match on centre.
delighted to see both won, good for boggo, he's winning quite a few 3 setters at the moment isn't he. i'm sure he'd prefer to win in straights, but its sure better than losing. His shins are still giving him trouble, and he's having plenty of massage and icing them.
great win for Evo too, what a 2nd set. would be nice to see him build on it by getting another win. he must be feeling good, once you beat the top seed anything is possible.

16.00 BST - QF: Alex Bogdanovic WR 220 v (7) Marinko Matosevic (AUS) WR 199
Matosevic has beaten both Josh and Alex himself in straight sets this year and has a 6 match winning streak against GB players since Slabba beat him on clay in Australia 3 years ago. He's also going for the double A-Bog bash, having already beaten Alex Bogomolov this week - ok, I know that's completely irrelevant. However, the bookies make this a 50:50 match and if Boggo is now fully fit again (not sure if he is or not), I'd say that's about right.
c. 17.30 BST - QF: Dan Evans WR 274 v (8) Kyu-Tae Im (KOR) WR 208
Im has a strange record against Brits - he beat Boggo in straight sets in Tallahassee in April, which seemed like a shocking result at the time, then lost to Josh Milton in Wimbledon qualifying, which was even more of an upset! Unfortunately, he seems to be a hard court specialist though, since he's 0-6 on grass/clay/carpet the start of March but his hard court results have been quite decent. However, if Dan can play as well as he must have done to beat Brendan Evans yesterday, he'd have a very good chance. The bookies give him about a 45% chance of winning.

maybe that's why the results have been so good, they've sent their stunt doubles to the US whilst they concentrate on other areas of their lives. 'Accomplished ceramic artist' at 19, not bad.

Considering Bogomolov is currently in the quarter finals of Indianapolis, I think he's done very well to achieve that while losing in a challenger at the same time.
Matosevic has beaten Simmonds and Cook to get this far...
