RE: Week 29 - Penza Challenger [50K] - 2009

Interesting that he's playing doubles with Karatchenia, someone who has a brilliant record against him.

Karatchenia won by 0 and 3 in a Futures in 2007 and 1 and 0 in the European Youth Olympics in 2005 - http://www.lignano2005.it/risultati/tennis/BoysSIMain2432.pdf

Chris is playing doubles with Marchenko. Didn't think too highly of his character in DC, maybe Chris saw something in his game that would suggest he'd be a good doubles partner.

Interestingly they're playing against Bubka first round!

I remember Marchenko saying about how he thought he was better at returning than serving. He did return very well against Goodall in the Davis Cup rubber. Maybe Eaton having a good serve and not such a good return game would mix well with Marchenko.

Cox and his partner lost 6-4 6-3 on the first round. Shame.

Chris plays his first round match on Center Court :D believe it or not. Maybe a big crowd, even if they are routing for Manegin. This could help Chris liking to show what he can do on the bigger stage/ bigger court.
A must win match for Chris, there isnt really an excuse to lose to this player unless an injury occurs. Hes so far below Chris, that he really needs to take the chance of 5 easy points.
He then plays his doubles third on court 3. Marchenko won his match today so will be in good spirits with Chris hopefully joining him in the second round in the singles, before they take on the second seeds together.

Chris gets his 5 points, Hoorah! Winning 6-1 6-3, really glad he didnt **** this chance up. He has Kukushkin next, who struggled in his first round coming through in 3 quite tight sets, so heres hoping Chris can put the pressure on him being so far below in the rankings again now. Heres hoping for a repeat of Wimbledon qualifying from last year :D.

A mannequin would have probably beaten Manegin

And they lost 5 & 4, perhaps because Bubka also had a partner, the Russian, Evgeny Kirillov - & the latter were the second seeds! wink

I'm glad Chris won his singles, and I'll be even more so if he can see off Kukushkin tomorrow. They're playing on court 3 and are second up.

Meaning the courts were either very slow, for Eaton not to hold serve once in the second set or he didnt serve well enough for this standard. The scorline is very poor and suggests Eaton has the right ranking, once again. Very dissapointed and im sure he is to, especially how he could beat him before and only get 4 games off him this time.
Still, he can take away 5 points and about $1000 from the week. Hopefully he can put that result behind him and go deep in Ilkley on the surface he loves.

That's a shocker (the scoreline rather than the loss, I don't think he was the fav to win by any means despite the 1-0 H2H) - I thought the courts in Penza were pretty fast and it was over 30 C there today, which should have helped rather than hindered.

Oh well, at least he got a few points to show for the long trip.

I must say my computer at work seems to have speeded up all moving smilies/avatars x10, so the kitten on helki's profile looks like it has just been injected with Plutonium the speed it is moving

Kukushkin went onto bagle his next two opponents in one set. So he is in a bit of form returning haha.
