Siljestrom has always been handy vollyer and net player, hes had a national rankings for years, but i guese for you guys its the first yourve seen or heard of him.
What a day! 7/8 semi-finalists in Frinton (men's and women's event combined) are Brits!
Must be the sea air - or something in the water! Seriously, well done, boys & girls. Has it ever happened before &, if so, when & where?
The GB girls always seem to do well in Frinton - we had three in the semis in 2006, 2007 and 2008, when Tara Moore beat (2) Liz Thomas in the semis then beat Barthel (the interloper from overseas who had beaten Joss Rae in the other semi) to win the title.
The best recent year in Frinton was 2006, when we had six in the Frinton semis - 3 men and 3 women.
In the men's event in 2006, our highest seed was (3) Matt Smith and while he didn't reach the semis, (6) Josh Goodall beat (7) Colin Fleming in one semi then beat (2) Bourgeois in the Final, the Aussie having knocked out Bam Bam in the other semi.
In the women's event in 2006, Georgie Stoop beat (1) Jane O'Donoghue to reach the Final, when she lost to (5) Pavlovic (FRA), who had beaten (7) Lindsay Cox in the other semi. Sadly, half of those six Brits have retired in the intervening 3 years.
I can't think of another combined ITF event where we had 7 in the semis. The last time I remember the men having a better tournament than this (i.e. four Brits in the semis of the same event) was in the Syros Future in Greece in 2007, where Kasiri beat Flan and Childs beat Wardy before going on to beat Kasiri in the Final.

Smith/Watling vs (3) Farron-Mahon/O'Brien or Rice/Thornley (4) Pauffley/Willis vs Espasandin/Siljestrom
* Siljestrom's run continues...
Today's doubles round-up:
Ricey couldn't quite keep up the good work in the doubles: he & Sean lost 6-7(5) 3-6 & Farron-Mahon & O'Brien then saw off Smith & Watling by 1 & 3. However, it was double whammy day for Siljestrom : Neil & Marcus beat him & Espasandin by 2 & 2, so fingers firmly crossed for them in (I presume) tomorrow's final.
