I take Vandenburg's point that you can't get too excited about the scoreline on any straight sets defeat on grass but I agree with JL and Salmon that you couldn't have expected more than one win out of that lot. Zero is a slight disappointment.
It might have been a close match but he still isnt in the next round, thats the only stone fact. had it been 6-0 6-0 he still wouldnt be through, who cares if it was a close match.
No one in their right mind expected our boys to win. The fact that they competed shows me with a bit more practice they could begin to get more wins at this level.
Eveyone's obsessed with grass being an advantage, but british players play on it as often as anyone else...
All Brit interest extinguished in the men's doubles:
- Milton & Ward lost to the Aussie top seeds, Hensel & Hubble, 4 & 4 (Aussie H & H then promptly lost to the Aussie third seeds, Jones & Smeets, 7-6(5) 1-6 [5-10] in the SF!)
- Bradshaw & Oliver Evans dumped out the second seeds, Fischer & Sadecky (AUT/SUI), 6-7(4) 6-4 [10-5] in the QF , only to crash out to the Irish-Swedish combo of Tristan Farron-Mahon (how can someone with Tristan as his "Christian" name & a double-barrelled surname possibly be Irish? ) & Andreas Siljeström by 4 & 0 in the SF!
