RE: Week 27 - ATP ($500,000) - Newport, U.S.A

yeh i thought 3 aces from Eaton sounded a bit low, even at Wimbledon qualifying he hit like 20% first serves and still managed more than that

The players must wonder why they bother going to one of the few grass court events in the world only to be out without even playing on the stuff. At least at Queen's they had the weather as an excuse. Facing a huge serve with hardly any room to move at the back of the court sounds like the tennis equivalent of hell ...

Would have hoped for a bit better from Josh, but it does sound like the conditions that they had to play in were a nightmare and he wouldn't have had much of a chance of breaking Groth.

Shame he couldn't have at least reached the last round though, as if Fish does pull out to play Davis Cup, then the top of the draw will be lucky loser vs. qualifier and qualifier vs. qualifier, which is a great chance for someone to reach a quarter final.

If it really was that hot then my guess is that they played indoors to save wear and tear on the grass, saving it for the MD.

Newport continues to have some of the most bizarre champions of the year, with the title this year going to Rajeev Ram!!!

Congrats to Rajeev on winning what will be his only ATP title and he made the most of the chance, but if he can win an ATP title then it must give hope to the Brits plying their trade in the challengers, because Ram isn't a lot better than them, or in some cases, even better than them at all.
