It was Trescothick's treatment of Warne that set up that day at Edgbastion.
Really excellent stuff so far. This is where we need Ian Bell, he was always very good at scoring runs when coming in on an already big total, this is not Colly's type of situation.
And Cook gets out just before his hundred to continue the comparison with Tresco from Edgbaston.
Be surprised if Hauritz bowled again in this test having dislocated his finger which surely means he won't be able to spin the ball, while Johnson is struggling to find the pitch, so the Aussie bowling attack is in trouble.
England just need to consolidate and make sure they end the day no more than 3 or 4 down with 350-400 on the board, and don't repeat the Edgbaston 2005 mistake and end the day all out.
Australia at the moment are not a particularly great time (neither are England though), which makes the performance in the first test even worse than it was.
Someone needs to hit North out of the attack - he's just wasting time. Then the pacers will tire since they'll have to spread Hauritz's quota amongst themselves. Actually given how MJ has bowled so far, Hilfy and Siddle will have to bowl a lot if they get rid of North....

I think they'll probably just use North in the same way that Hauritz would have been used, with Clarke and Katich bowling a few more overs than they normally would have.
North doesn't really look like taking a wicket, so keep him on for as long as possible as you can just milk him for runs.
Tresco's still doing a stunning job for Somerset and still looks like he should be playing for England if he still wanted to.
Yeah, that's why I really want Somerset to qualify for the Champions League T20. If Tres is tempted to come to India, maybe he could be persuaded to return to the national team.
The ODI team misses him badly - these days no one (barring KP) scores enough 100s.
Haha, we are good at this generally, not just Ashes.
Still, we can get to 500 if we get some luck. Not sure if Onions knows which way the bat is held, but there's hope while Broad and Swann are there, and Jimmy is our newest allrounder in the making!
At least they took advantage of the conditions....well done JA and all the bowlers. so often they have had decent bowling conditions and not bowled on a length but well done today.
