2009 Wimbledon 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em contest

Never-the-less despite my low finish of 396 I went up 7 places to 60 in the overall rankings!! This is very strange as when I finished in the 20s I dropped 20 places I expect it must be due to the points that drop off, I haven't worked that out yet but it's all good fun and adds interest (and annoyance) of the events.

You had a bad Wimbledon last year too, so neither Wimby 2008 or Wimby 2009 generated enough points to be part of your best 7 scores, which means that your points total didn't change.

It's still a bit strange that you went up, because generally (e.g. in the 100-200 range) an unchanged points total produced a loss of 10-20 places because more people played Wimbledon this year than last year, so more points were being handed out. However, when you're in the top 100, it can be more unpredictable - you must have just been in an area where lots more people were dropping points than gaining them.

Your 20 place drop last time was a special case - you did very well in Rome last year as well, so your net change from Rome was less than 100, but (and this is the 'special case' bit) you had also done very well in Monte Carlo last year and because we decided not to run a pick 'em for MC this year, those points came off at the same time.

I got the impression he was p*ssed off with Feds comment to him about "don't get too down, i've been through some bad losses", probably wasn't the best thing to say as they have a 6-0 wimbledon champion count.......

i think fed messed up the on court interview too. but  i think he was kind of in a dream state and didnt really know what to say. i got the jist of what he meant but it just came out wrong. still he can be forgivne that. Roddick came across really well too.

Duckboy is of course the one who said last year "don't feel sorry for Roger losing a few matches, we've all been losing to him for years and nobody's felt sorry for us" or words to that effect" so I think his reply had a bit of edge, but while it wasn't the most diplomatic thing to say, I'm sure Fed didn't mean it to come out quite like that.

True, but don't worry, it's not just because you are more WTA-centred, most new teams do badly when they first start - you need to play a few to start getting a feel for who the serial muppets are, etc.
