2009 Wimbledon 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em contest

The Wimbledon 'Battle of the Boards' pick 'em contest is now open for entries at http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html

Qualifiers have already been placed, since they were known before the draw for once, but obviously if you aren't about to go away for the weekend, you might want to wait until after Rafa's press conference this afternoon before entering.

There is a chance that we might hit the 500 entrant limit this time. If we do, anyone in the top 250 of the overall rankings after RG will get in as long as they enter before the deadline, but other places will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. So, if you are not in the top 250, I would suggest not leaving it until the very last minute to enter. Obviously the full post-RG rankings are not on the site yet (due to me having been away for most of the time since RG finished), but I should manage to get around to doing them tonight, so they will be available long before we get anywhere near 500 entrants.

Entries close at noon UK time on Monday, when play is due to start on the outside courts. Last year, I tried to get the initial results up as soon as possible during Monday afternoon and most of the Brits playing on Monday were out by the time I managed to even catch a live score, so this year I'm going to be a bit more selfish and not even try to do the initial results until Monday evening, but obviously there will be frequent intra-day updates from Tuesday onwards.

Good luck!

Just entered this for the first time.

Thankfully I am away for the 2 weeks of Wimbledon, otherwise my stress levels would be even higher than they normally are at this time of year!

Thanks Paul, good luck!

Also, if anyone would like to try their hand at the women's draw too, Team CC are running a small WTA version of BOTB for Wimbledon at http://centrecourtmag.com/forum/index.php?showforum=206 and they would be happy to have a few entrants from other boards.

DavidC from here entered the RG version - I won't say where he finished! ashamed

Thanks for all the effort that goes into these Steven, it's much appreciated!
Anyway, here's hoping I can continue my long tradition of a brilliant first day, and then hilarious collapse disbelief.

Good luck all!

This pick'em is going to be even more difficult than normal now Nadal is out...What does that do to the seedings?

There's an explanation on the Wimbledon thread

I did my picks early as won't get a chance over the weekend. Banked on Nadal turning up but quitting early, god knows what I'll end up with now the draw will be shuffled.

The pick 'em entry form has been updated with all the changes that have results from the Baghdatis and Nadal withdrawals.

After Rafa's w/d, (17) Flake gets Potty's slot, (33) Kiefer gets Flake's slot and (LL) Thiago Alves gets Kiefer's slot.

Also Baggy has been replaced by (LL) Karol Beck - N.B. be careful, there are two Becks in the same section and there are not two but THREE Gonzos in the draw this time - Fernando, Maximo and Santiago!

I thought my 'typical British performance on clay' had escaped scrutiny ashamed. Anyway as a visitor I thought my role should be to make the regulars feel good about themselves - I certainly succeeded smile

smile at least you didn't come last (if I remember right) and I'm sure you'll do better on grass (I've heard it said that having a puff before doing your picks can work wonders wink )

I think there are some bum sections. I can't believe I have Montanes, as the 32nd seed, to make the 3rd round but to honest, there's bugger all else in that section!

I'm not pinning any hopes on this one this time. I think it'll be a shocker.

Soderling v Federer 4th round? BOOOOO!

Sent, by the way.

haha that's quality Steven. Don't know about anyone else but I found this one really tough to pick. So many where I had no real stats to base my pick on other than ranking and a bit of guesswork. Maybe that's cos the grass season is so short I don't know but so many I found myself thinking no idea!!

Out of interest are there any sites that break a players stats down by surface? Meant to ask after the RG one when so many people were commenting on peoples record. I know so many of you guys have a huge depth of knowledge anyway but just though i'd check.
