Agreed that the second serve let her down, but it was at least good to see her going after instead of dropping in cream puffs that would get battered aside, she did manage to hit a second serve ace after all, however yes it did faulter at crucial stages. As Tracy Austin mentioned, the footwork could be improved, but overall I was very impressed, great groundstrokes, nice use of angles etc etc
I hadn't realised that there was such likelihood that Robson would actually play for Australia and not GB, that would be more than a bit cheeky after receiving lots of help from the LTA.
Oh please don't believe the crap some commentators come out with.
An encouraging debut for Laura at Wimbledon, I thought for a moment that we were set for a repeat of Andy's run a few years ago but not to be.
I like Laura's aggressive approach. In the long run it will pay off for her. The double faults don't bother me at this stage; much rather she go for her 2nd serve than land a slow vulnerable serve that will get destroyed by decent opponents.
Really it is just a case of execution. With practice she'll land a higher percentage of 2nd serves, she'll make more of her aggressive shots straight after the serve, perhaps land a few more returns. There were several occasions where she dominated the point but made a mess of the final shot, a smash that went miles wide and a forehand just wide, were two that spring to mind.
Obviously there are areas of her game that need lots of work but that's to be expected at her age. She looks on course to be a top 5 player.
the crazy thing is you can be sure there will be people writing her off already. it's amazing anyone succeeds at sport at all in the UK with the constant hounding of the press and the seemingly overwhelming delight in failure.
am sure Laura will improve, she certianly showed the potentioal, but was bound to get nervous at times. big DF's are unfortunate, but serve is somehting that can be worked on, and i am sure she can develop a much 'safer' but still reasonably good 2nd serve for such situations.
i assume she will play juniors as well this year?

Great effort from Laura, well done. Though I didn't find her that exciting to watch, I have to say - compared to Cavaday, for instance, who I just find a joy.
So good to see such a positive, aggressive, athletic attitude on court; the way she runs back to the chair, smiles a lot, bounces around - great to see.
