What a fantastic performance, what a pleasure to watch - those last two games of the match from her were immense!

She's still down 20 points on last year because of the ranking points change and because she won a round last year too, but it'll mean she's right on the verage of the top 100 still even if she goes no further.

At last...a brit who isn't Murray gets into the second round.
Not quite so impressed as some of the posters here as to the quality of that match (or maybe it was the patches of it that I did see) as there seemed to be too many errors in that match at times, but a great win for Elena who at times did play some good tennis.
Up next for her is Kirsten Flipkens of Belguim, who is ranked 112, has a career high of 86, and had won just three matches on the WTA tour this season until today, but put out the 30th seed Agnes Szavay in round one. That sounds very much like a winnable match for Elena, so a great shot at round three.

I think that's the best tennis you can see with two players playing high risk tennis with low, flat groundstrokes.
The difference between this match and Katie's (for example) earlier was very noticeable.

Even better than that, 'Flipper' has a 10-2 record against Brits, but the good news is that the '2' are the two times she played Elena - Bally beat her 3 & 3 in the Torhout 75K in April last year and 1 & 1 in the 25K in Jersey in 2005.
Come on!!

Didn't see all of the match so maybe the parts I caught were the dips in quality, and while I saw the last couple of games, was on the phone at the time so not giving it my full attention.
Well done Bally. What a fighter and saving the day for the Brit girls. She really could make the third round now and give Safina a run for her money.
Gutted with Anne's result. Really was convinced she would win this one. Saw some of her press conference and she was so distressed about losing. I hope she doesn't dwell on it two much and let it affect her confidence after Wimbledon as overall she has still done well to get where she is. Makes you realise as well that these players are only human after all with feelings.
