Weeks 25-26 - Wimbledon Singles Main Draw

No I won't, there's more   smile

"Murray can only conclude that Wimbledon have given him a great opportunity to progress to the late stages. Potentially he could run into last years semi-finalist Marat Safin in the last 16 and seventh seed Simon Gillles in the quarter finals."

Err, Simon is the eighth seed.

Who writes this stuff ?

I'm only reading a little bit regarding Andy's draw, gawd knows how much rubbish there is !

Can't communicate a draw, can't communicate correct info on their website even about their own tournament.

Hee hum

PS :  By the way, who is this Simon Gilles guy ?   biggrin

I could be wrong but I very much doubt there are any real links.

The earliest we'll know is possibly the result of the match and more importantly what Rafa says after it.

LLodra is agood player and should beat josh I Hope I am proved wrong!

Berdych will definitely beat Bogga ----------it will be bye bye Bogga in round 1 again.

i worry about all the hype building up about Andy it started really in earnest At Wimbledon last year I feel sorry for him he is the best player we have ever had but again the press start buliding things like they did with Tim! Let him play his own game and let us not get too carried away if he reaches the final well ----------the whole of Scotland will be in uproar ----------best thing since 1967 when we thrashed England at wembley and became unofficial world champions lol !!!!!!!

Not a good draw for the other Brits and we'll do well to get one through to the second round.

Goodall has the best shot against Llodra, but he's a very solid grass court player and has come back into a bit of form by reaching the QF's in Rosmalen this week. Plus the fact he's got a big serve and excellent volleys which means it will be tough for Josh to break him judging by his returning efforts against Muller and Ljubicic over the last week.

Verdasco's not at his best on a grass court but it's still very hard to see how Ward could beat him. Think this match is a complete write-off as far as a British win is concerned.

Davydenko is not great on a grass court but given the form that Evans is in at the moment, it would be a major surprise if Evans could manage to get the win. He'll have to play to his best and hope that Davydenko is just here for the money to really have a good chance.

Boggo against Berdych is an interesting draw. On the face of it Boggo wouldn't be given much of a chance but Berdych this season has ranged from excellent to awful, so if he is on one of his bad days, then Boggo does have a chance. Still would be an upset if Boggo could win though and I'd be surprised if he did.

Hopefully Josh can win this one, i think he can, but he must return well for the whole match and serve extremely well. Finish points off as quick as possible on his own serve and let Llodra worry about his own. He is capable of serving consistently at around 135 mph and above on the grass. He is Britains biggest server at the moment in my view. If he can, I'd say a win is there, but this will only come from a solid match off Goody.  : Llodra to win - 7-6 6-4 7-5.

Dan can play solid from the back from what ive seen and with Davydenko being a bit of a numpty on grass Evo might edge it. But in order to win/ let alone push the russian he has to serve well and bring the form from Jersey back here. :
Davdenko to win- 6-2 6-4 6-4

Boggo, lol, what a chance to edge a tight one against someone actually worse than your good self mentally :P. I can definetly see this one go to a fifth set and whoever wants to lose it the most will come through- maybe 22-20 in the 5th lol. But on a serious note, a very good chance for Boggo if Berdych has an off day. Needs to serve excellent for the whole thing though. I think this match will be similar to the DC match against Melzer and Tursunov the other day. I can unfortunately see from such a brave effort at the start to have another major explosion mentally and ust completely lose it. :
Berdych to win- 3-6 5-7 6-4 6-1 6-2

Ward, Definitly not a grass court player to me. Well, not impressed at all from what i have seen from him against Baghdatis and Dancevic. You look at him form the ground where you have to be solid for a player like him where he enjoys the clay. But you see so many unforced errors, countless shanks, mostly from the forehand. His volleying is absolute crap (looking at against Dancevic in the tiebreak and the start of second set.) He doesnt seem to win any points there lol. His groundstrokes are big ones but are very hot and cold, the timing of some of them on the grass is not good. His serve is huge and has improved a lot, seeing a couple about 135 mph against Dancevic but then the percentage isnt there so...  :Verdasco to win-
6-3 6-3 6-0

wouldn't disagree with that Spud.

Boggo will have to stay focused and really keep his 1st serve % high otherwise he will be punished, similar to what happened vs DT. Although if Boggo were to win two sets i don't think he'd have a total collapse at any point. and hopefully he won't run out of steam.

Dan has struggled on the grass this season it would seem so really Davyd will be a big fav for thsi match.

Verdasco really should have too much for Ward, even if he ins't at his most comfortable on thsi surface.

not sure how Llodra is playing at the moment, maybe Josh would have a glimmer of a chance?

It's a very big if, but if Bogdanovic can get through the first round, then the draw does open up nicely for him, especially with the huge amount of confidence he should have.

Mathieu plays clay court tennis on a grass court while Gil isn't exactly a grass court specialist so you'd think Bogdanovic would have a chance in that match, especially if he could beat Berdych.

And then Davydenko (not at home on the grass at all) or Evans/Crivoi/Phau in round 3, with Boggo being a big favourite to beat any of the latter three on grass if they did meet.

Of course, Boggo has to get through his opening match against Berdych first which will be a very difficult match, but if he does manage to get through it, then he does have a good chance of winning a few rounds. (the same with Evans...if he can through round one, then he has a great chance of round three)

Unfortunately a win for Goodall would likely see him face Haas, while Ward would face Mahut, so not much of a chance of a great run for them, even if they cause the big upset in round one.

Llodra has dropped to 144 in the rankings but reached the last eight in Rosmalen this week, and the 2nd round of Queens the week before.

He also reached the final of Marseille back in Febuary but other than that not a lot all season. The fact he missed two months of the season may suggest he picked up an injury though.

Seems to be coming back into form, which is bad news for Josh.

... all of which makes it a big pity that they didn't both come out of the draw a couple of slots earlier or later really.

I can't see any of the GB men's WCs winning their R1 matches this year, but you're right about the Bog-vo section offering the most promise if one of them manages it.

looks like Rafa lost to Stan 46, 76, 10-3.

i know it was closer than the Hewitt match, but will rafa play if he doesn't believe he has a genuine chance to win? and if he is not close to 100% you cant actually see him improving over the 2 weeks, but getting worse, possibly threatening his season.

I don't know, I think I would rather he had to play a dodgy-kneed Rafa than a fit Delpo - though i don't really think Del Boy will be much of a threat on grass, I'd rather not find out. I hope somebody takes him out earlier!

Shame for Rafa not to be fit to defend his title but if he isn't fit, then playing is only going to make the injury worse. Probably needs to take a few months off to get fully fit now as with the kind of injury he has, it seems that playing while still injured can only make it worse.

But great news for Andy... he has no excuse now not to be in the final - perhaps only Roddick can stop him, but Murray got a great record against him anyway.

Think a Murray vs. Federer final looks inevitable now.
