OK so first up this morning was Willis v Stoppini and Marcus got off to a terrible start losing the first 4 games and was foot faulted twice in the first game and once in his next (is that usual for him?). Stoppini was doing nothing special just keeping every shot deep and waiting for the Willis error. From there though he got a foothold on the match and played some really good stuff - he has a lovely sliced backhand, a decent serve and good at the net. Just played one sloppy game in the second set although he did have bp's in the next game but missed a great chance on one of them. Overall I thought he acquitted himself well but did not play the big points particularly well against a very experienced opponent. He seemed to be very animated throughout which I felt was a bit of a distraction to him.
Next I watched Milton v Peya and when he failed to win a point in the first 2 games I feared the worst, however he then broke to love, before getting broken again with both players really struggling in the windy conditions. From there he played probably the best tennis I saw all day to win 5 games on the trot. He has a lovely playing style and does not hold back on any of his shots and Peya had no answer. He was broken at the start of the second set and again I think inexperience showed as he constantly went for Peya's backhand that in the end Peya started producing lovely sliced backhands all the time as he found his groove. Milts had chances to break back and if he had done so I think he would have gone on to win. 3rd set was a shame as he was still going for his shots but wind kept taking them out. He looks to have real promise though.
I was half watching Slabs in his t/b against a very animated Karanusic and again it was a case of not taking chances as his opponent was just getting everything into play. I started watching properly when he was 2-0 down in the second and he was just continually slicing his backhand out because of the wind and got too down on himself...again though a very tough opponent.
Despite the results a very enjoyable day and will go again next year

It's funny you say that. I noticed on Monday Marcus's ball toss was way out in front of him, so it's not too surprising that he made a few foot faults. I wouldn't change his ball toss - he does have a good serve, no point changing it - It might be just a case of him having to start his service motion from a little further back
Marcus does get animated and does gee himself up I have only seen him in Edinburgh he has been criticised for being over weight but I think he is a good young kid with loads of promise as does Smethurst! Marcus had a good win in first round in qualies and it would be difficult to maintain that remember he is playing 10/15 k tournaments this is a bg step up as he is ranked 800 plus!
coxy and milton did well so there ranking will go up.
better not to do an Eaton and qualify then do nothing for a year.
Feel sorry for Chris has had Wimbledon hanging over him for a year with all the ranking points to defend
I've had a read through this thread and the Eastbourne threads and it seems like I really did pick the wrong time to be away, especially with Muzza winning Queen's too. Having said that, the event I was away running was fun, just bad timing!
I can hardly believe Meatball beat Delic, that's an amazing result ... Milton putting up such a fight against Peya was excellent too, and there were other wins that would have been the wins of the week in almost any other week!

It wasn't even like Delic played badly, Marcus completely outplayed him. He made Delic look about 5'2 at the net rather than 6'5 the ease with which he was able to pass him was astonishing. I'd like to see Marcus really work hard on developing his forehand into a big shot, the rest of his game looks about right
