Week 24 - AELTC - Wimbledon, England: Mens Qualifying

I didn't see this anywhere so thought i would make a useful 1st thread - qualifying draw is out for the men's and some good, some bad draws but Cox has had a dream i would say, Eaton has a tough 1st opponent and no 2 Brits will have to face off:

Q1

Marcus Willis vs Amer Delic
Alexander Slabinsky vs Adrian Cruciat

Q2

Joshua Milton vs Alexandre Sidorenko (30)
Daniel Smethurst vs Marco Chiudinelli

Q4

Chris Eaton vs Stephane Robert
Daniel Cox vs Conor Niland
Richard Bloomfield vs Dieter Kindlmann

OOP isn't out yet but in my opinion that is not a bad start, no-one has a top seed or seemingly dangerous floater in their ection either.

O god - you knew Robert would come back to haunt us.

Marcus probably drew the shortest straw with Delic but that's not saying a huge amount...

Not bad really. Should get a couple of wins out of that at worst!

Eaton has got Robert then Mannarino boo :( but potentially if he gets that far, poor Patience has to play him again in Round 3

Bloomers must be chuckling into his cornflakes at the sight of his draw...the lowest big seed (q16) too

ORDER OF PLAY

All Brits on courts 14, 15 or 16

Unfortunately I have a funereal to attend tomorrow at 11.00 -  time of start for Richard, although he will do well to win as he hasnt played for a month having been troubled with a back injury, I am actually surprised to see him in the draw.

Not the greatest draw in the world, but there is enough hope that we can get a few players into the second round at least.

Tough start for Willis and he will do well to get through the first round against Delic. If he does that, then Stakhovsky will probably have too much for him anyway.

Slabba is in a very nice section of the draw as there is no-one there who is particularly special on a grass court and if he plays like he did at Queens, then he's got every chance of making it. Should win his first match at least, and then go from there, but a rematch with Giraldo would be nice.

Don't remember Sidorenko doing a lot on a grass court so hopefully Milton can give him a good match, but it's a struggle to see him winning it. Good luck to him anyway.

Chuidinelli is a decent draw for Dan but he'll have to play to his best to do so. He's not got the worst section in the world, but it's a push to see him qualifying from it.

Robert may be a Brit-basher but Eaton should be able to have enough for him if he plays like he did last year. He's been warming up for this on the clay so won't have much grass court practice under his belt. Mannarino and then Patience isn't the best route for qualifying again though.

Cox could upset Niland, but his run won't go much further than that as Amritraj should be far too good for him on a grass court. It would be a good test of his game though.

Bloomers is in a good section of the draw but obviously the fact he hasn't played a match for a while is going to be a problem. If he was fully fit then he'd have a good chance of qualifying, but that may not be the case given his fitness.

Also... can someone text me the results of the British players tomorrow as at Eastbourne I won't be able to find out the scores? Thanks to anyone who can do this.

Kinley, it's not the easiest place to get to, with no train or bus station that close. If you're coming in on the tube then it's a 10 minute bus journey from Hammersmith followed by a 10 minute walk, slightly uphill past the NTC. If you're using mainline trians the bus journey is only a few minutes from Barnes station, but there is still a bit of a walk.

What will happen tommorow:

Delic to cruise through Willis with too much power. 6-3 6-3
Slabinsky to continue poor recent form and bow out early. 6-4 7-5
Sidorenko to be too much for Josh Milton. 6-1 6-4
Chiudinelli to edge a tight one with Smethurst. 7-5 7-6
Chris Eaton to begin a new campaign at Wimbledon this year. 6-4 6-4
Niland to have way to much experience tommorow for Cox. 6-4 6-2
Bloomfield to get off to a great start after a while out on his best surface. 6-2 6-4
