At least some are getting past round 1. Well done Col & Ken, though I think the next round could prove to be a little more difficult.
Yeah, one WC that wasn't wasted! Smashing win! 20 points in the bag! Can't expect them to beat the Bryans, but they've nowt to lose - & lots to learn from the experience of playing them!
Andy is also giving doubles a bash with Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) and they face Rajeev Ram & Andy Roddick (USA). Two players who know the courts of Queens very well there.
Andy & Oz Brat, having overcome Rodders & Ram, lost by 4 & 3 against the relatively more experienced doubles partnership of Kubot & Marach (POL/AUT), the fifth seeds.
Not a good sign for the DC tie...Kubot is on the rise relatively speaking and he made the SF of the Aussie open doubles this year as well as reaching the ATP Belgrade final in singles.
Good win for Flemski against a team that have had some decent results recently and they'll get to test themselves against the Bryans now. Not expecting anything from that match, but it will be a chance for them to see what level they are at.
Probably not the worst thing for Murray to lose his doubles match as he can now concentrate on the singles having got a bit of grass court practice in.
Kubot - the good news is that he probably won't be involved in Davis Cup, at least in the doubles, as the Poles would surely use Frystenburg/Matkowski as their doubles pairing rather than play Kubot with someone different. And I'm sure he's had plenty of disputes with the Polish federation and I'm sure he's chosen not to play DC in the past, so let's hope he's still in dispute with them.
And the momentous encounter 'twixt Flemski & the Bryans will take place in the fifth & final match on the centre court tomorrow. Good luck, boys, & give it your best shot!
Jamie's & Jonathan's rescheduled match against Friedl & Skoch is now due to be the third match played on Court 9 tomorrow.
