Pav is a very good player, and a very good grasscourter too, so no shame in this.
SHe pushed her all the way, but really had very few chances. She should of broken before the rain delay at the start of the second set, but I'm not sure it would of made much difference.
Unlike in Oz she sustained a high level throughout, and I hope she isn't too deflated.
I don't think she'll win a round at Eastbourne, but if she goes into qualies instead then she can definately come through, which would be a boost.
The points in this event are pretty crap, so a win wouldn't of moved her ranking at all. This event was about more grass practice and testing herself against better players. She's done that, and hopefully given herself a left into the big one in 2 weeks time.
I wonder where Mel will finish the year? I suspect it won't be inside the top 100. She strikes me as someone with top 100 potential (assuming she can develop her game and improve her movement etc) who used the system to her advantage to get into the top 100, only to discover the obvious; that other top 100 players were a lot better than she is right now.
Mel broken again 1-4* Her first serve is winning her less than 50% of the points.
*1-5
